I live by the place so I can confirm it was wrapped around Irene. It used to be a signal post and "ran into" some incoming traffic one day. Most people around that cross-street had their fence impacted by traffic in the ol' days. Things seem to be calming right now notwithstanding the motorcycle club that roars around the block from time to time.

We should feel lucky to be still surrounded by artists ready to add some beauty to our existence. That pole was actually lined up with little red hearts that used to move with the wind.

That is a bent street sign post that has artfully been turned into a sculptural rendering of an exotic potted plant. It's actually been there for years, not months. At this point I think the city has forgotten about it, or else it is so well disguised that they have not been able to locate the post to fix it.

I think it's faded now - needs refreshing.

I knew what you were referring to before I saw the pic. I love that mysterious thing. It's actually been around even longer than that. I remember it from before Hurricane Irene, when I tried to find the creator for an art show.
