I guess if one is exposed to such things at a very young age, then it would be "normal".

My dad loves turtle - he'd buy live turtles from the market, and I remember vividly he'd "prep" it himself for cooking; for example. standing there in the kitchen (sometimes for a few minutes) with a cleaver waiting for the turtle's head to come out (of the shell) so he can chop it off in one big swoof!

And my parents would force me to eat a stewed chicken heart - because that's suppose to be good for me...

The concept of eating dog is disgusting to me, but as your post indicates, I have heard this is a massive cultural difference, as people in China are quite comfortable eating dog.

I can't speak for Cambodia, but I've traveled up and down Vietnam. It quite common to see roadside eateries with "Thit Cho" signs, even though the government has banned the sale of dogs as livestock. I don't think I ever saw a stray dog in Vietnam, whereas they're all over Thailand. 'Nuff said.

No, I worked in sector support in IT, the Russians flew me around in their Mi-17's to deliver and repair computer equipment. I usually stayed overnight in Kampong shitholes and get picked up the next day.

and Yes, I had a Toyota Land Cruiser #1648, with twin 100 liter diesel tanks which i would drive from Phnom Penh to the beach in Kompong Som

what's your significant contribution to SEA?

M'kay sunshine, I've only been in the region for 20 odd years or so. I'm nearly fluent in only a couple of SE Asian languages.

Rebecca Panico | The Jersey Journal

Khadijah Sumter's dogs are coveted not only by her, but perhaps someone else as well.

Sumter, 27, believes her two dogs were recently stolen in Jersey City after witnesses said they saw someone selling her beloved pups.

"They're my life," said Sumter, a North Bergen resident. "I kept calling their name hoping they'd hear. I pretty much collapsed on the ground when I heard."

Prince and Diamond are black and tan miniature dachshunds. Prince just celebrated his 8th birthday on May 11, and Diamond, a female and 4 years old, has a natural Mohawk on her neck.

Resized Image

On May 16, Sumter's father was watching Prince and Diamond in his Jersey City home on Kennedy Boulevard. When Sumter came to pick up the dogs at around 4 p.m. after attending a bridal shower, her dad told her he couldn't find the dogs.

Sumter went up and down Kennedy Boulevard in a frenzy, asking business owners and residents if they had seen her dogs. One women noticed Sumter crying and said she had seen someone selling the dogs.
