NJ Lawmakers Support Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Extension
November 12, 2015 8:14 PM ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) ? New Jersey officials said a proposal to extend the Hudson-Bergen light rail system into Bergen County has enough support from lawmakers to make the plan a reality. State Senator Loretta Weinberg is pushing to get started on the project immediately, but funds are still needed to support the plan, WCBS 880?s Levon Putney reported. ?The latest environmental impact study said more than 20,000 people would use this rail every day,? Weinberg said. ?So if you?re going to start prioritizing projects, might as well take the one with the most ridership.? Democratic Senate President Steve Sweeney said extending light rail service in South Jersey will also happen. They are also considering plans to extend the lines in Patterson and Jersey City ? but the Hudson-Bergen line is the priority, once they receive proper funding. ?We will not support any transportation master plan that does not have the initial funding that we need,? Sweeney said. Under the plan, the light rail service would extend into Bergen County, north of the rail line?s current last stop at Englewood Hospital. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2015/11/1 ... n-bergen-light-rail-plan/

Hilarious. Asked why no Republicans were present, Menendez says representatives of the towns along the proposed rail extensions were invited-who are all Democrats. Of course, also noted in the article is that 50% of the proposed (minimum) billion dollar cost would come from all the taxpayers of NJ-including a lot of suburban taxpayers who won't benefit from this at all . . . Oops!

Amen. Southwest to Hudson mall, north into Bergen county. Englewood is pretty ambitious, let's start with getting it into the top half of north Bergen and the Ridgefield/Edgewater/Cliffside Park, much like they did Bayonne - one stop at a time.

Nice to see Menendez and Booker doing just that yesterday-bring back the bacon! Turn the decades long inability of our Senators to get us infrastructure funding around!

Since we have (for now, at least) two Democratic Senators, with a Democrat in the White House who keeps talking about shovel ready jobs-c'mon, Booker and Menendez, bring back some pork! It's mass transit-Obama loves green! NJ is a prevailing wage state-the jobs will go to union employees! It'll help minorities-very inclusive?
There should've be any reason why Obama, Booker, and Menendez can't deliver the extension with Federal funds-after all, almost no state gets screwed worse by the Feds than NJ! Bring it home!
