However, the group of approximately 50 students did so without uttering a word. Cheered on by a handful of faculty and staff members, the students staged a silent "die-in" demonstration to protest the police killing of a Staten Island man who was placed in an apparent choke hold by a police officer. Students laid on the cold pavement holding signs saying "lie down, protest the injustice of Eric Garner's murder," "black lives matter," and "all lives matter." A grand jury's decision not to charge the officer involved in Garner's death has sparked similar "die-in" protests around the country. More
