They need to be diciplined!

It doesn't read to me like the officer made it up. It just appears that they're in trouble for posting the internal memo on facebook.

That scumbag cop posted a inside memo but also added names which he should not have done!
Say good-bye to your job!

Greenville maybe, certainly not DTJC. Also the purported retaliation concerns a guy who murdered a police officer in cold blood, not someone who reached for a phone.

We are talking about two different incidents, I am not talking about the cop Killer Campbell. A young man was shot and killed by a police officer while reaching for his phone. This will effect all of JC not just GV.

Are you talking about the felon, with several outstanding warrants, who fled when spotted by police, hid in a backyard shed, and then was shot when trying to disarm the cop? I haven't seen any reports over a young man shot reaching for his phone.

This is great, and needs to be quoted again for emphasis.

I hear one news report where the mayor maintains that the threat was not credible and the officer will be disciplined. Then, I see this "exclusive interview" with the JC Public Safety Director, James Shea, who reports that the threat was real and part of an internal directive. Who is correct? And it's no wonder the cops are trying to warn the public when there is an obvious lack of transparency connected to what we ought to be told and when.

And I might add, how wise is it, in this volatile climate, to antagonize a very active local gang (with up to 20k members nationally - and a further boost of "brotherhood" through their alliance in the People Nation) by being publicly quoted as a top (seasoned) police official saying:

?Anybody I?ve ever met who self identifies himself as a Blood is lucky he could tie his shoes, at a mental level.?

Jersey City Public Safety Director questions Bloods' ability to coordinate attacks on cops

By The Jersey Journal
on July 16, 2014 at 5:54 PM

Jersey City Public Safety Director James Shea dismissed a recent threat that gang members throughout the state will travel to Jersey City to kill police officers, calling it "ridiculous."

Police across the state are on high alert following an internal New Jersey State Police advisory warning that Bloods gang members might be traveling to Jersey City to target police officers.

While Shea, who oversees the city's police and fire departments, confirmed that the advisory was indeed authentic, he questioned the credibility of the threat and the capacity of the gang coordinating in such a way.

?The idea that they [the Bloods] are an organized group that could send people from city to city is ridiculous,? he told The Jersey Journal today. ?Anybody I?ve ever met who self identifies himself as a Blood is lucky he could tie his shoes, at a mental level.?

This all comes in the aftermath of Jersey City Police Officer Melvin Santiago's death. Santiago was fatally shot in a Walgreens parking lot Sunday morning after responding to a report of an armed robbery at the store, before police shot and killed the gunman authorities said.

?Everything has been taken out of context here,? Shea said during the exclusive interview with The Jersey Journal this afternoon.

Officials said the police officer, who put a version of the memo on Facebook, will be disciplined.

?Every time police officers leave on a job there is potential danger, as Melvin Santiago?s death at the hands of this cowardly murderer tragically reminds us," Shea said. "What happened here is one member of our force put the threat out on social media where it was viewed by people who do not have the context to view it and judge it for what it is and they took it at face value.?

Shea added that despite the memo, officers are on the same level of alertness that they always maintain.

?The police officers in the West [District] going out on patrol feel the same way as when they went out, other than with sadness and grief, the same way as when they went out on patrol the day before Officer Santiago?s death,? he said.

?We have found no credible corroboration. We?ve received several vague threats against police. We have received no credible corroboration to them and most have already been washed out.?

Police throughout the state are on high alert following an internal New Jersey State Police advisory warning that Bloods gang members might be traveling to Jersey City to target police officers.

Two law enforcement officers from Hudson and Essex counties confirmed to The Jersey Journal that such an alert was issued.

The New York Post reported today that the gang threat was made in response to the shooting of Lawrence Campbell, the man who shot and killed Jersey City Police Officer Melvin Santiago in a Walgreens parking lot early Sunday morning.

A version of the alert, which was posted on a Facebook page, stated that a reliable source within the gang said the Jersey City Bloods have requested assistance from Bloods gang members in Camden and Newark to shoot another police officer in Jersey City.

The version of the alert also stated that officers working details on the Pulaski Skyway, as well as EMTs, might be targeted.

During an appearance today on Geraldo Rivera's WABC radio show, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop said a police officer posted the alert online and that the officer will face disciplinary action.

"The police department gets tons of threats and 99.9 percent are not substantiated and not credible. However, we take it seriously," Fulop said.

A spokesman for Jersey City Medical Center said in a statement that the hospital has always been concerned about the safety of its employees -- including EMTs -- patients, and visitors.

"We have taken steps to ensure a safe working environment for our employees. The Jersey City Medical Center and the Jersey City Medical Center EMS have an excellent reputation for saving lives and responding quickly to trauma's and other medical emergencies throughout Jersey City and Hudson County and will continue to do so. We thank the community for their continued support."

Meanwhile, New Jersey State Police officials would not comment on the threat or advisory, but Lt. Brian Polite, a spokesman for the state police, issued the following statement:

?The (New Jersey Regional Operations Intelligence Center) is an intelligence-based fusion center that routinely generates and shares law enforcement sensitive information with other agencies nationally and internationally, including numerous officer safety advisories based upon information received from law enforcement at all levels," Polite said in the statement. "Due to the sensitive nature of these documents, we do not comment on their content."

Joe Pentangelo, a spokesman for the Port Authority Police Department, said members of the department have "been reminded to be vigilant."
