I would be very happy right now on the beaches of Taghazout in Morocco. An out-of-the-way little place that is beautiful and memorable. Ahh, what a nice thought to go into my afternoon.

Caribbean. Leave for Newark airport just a little earlier than you might leave to go to work, and by the afternoon you're on the beach.

For beaches:
Islands of Koh Samui / Koh Tao in Thailand. The tourist season is ending and its the start of the hot & dry time. For a bit of an adventure: Southern Laos. I had the best trip of my life going through the old French colonial area. This was 10 years ago.. Laos didn't have much in the way of tourists yet, so I don't know what it will be like today. For anything in Asia, this is an excellent tour company. http://www.asiatranspacific.com/ They can arrange custom trips that are less expensive than what they have advertised on their website.

For a few winters I jettisoned off to warm climates. The four most recent trips were St. Kitts, Sydney, Hawaii and Sanya, China. I've not been to South America yet and it's currently their summer so... Rio de Janeiro seems like it would be my pick right now.

On the recommendations of several friends, I'd go to Marseille. Big city, totally reinventing itself, moderate climate.
