It's frankly a little bit troubling that Mayor Fulop so quickly and enthusiastically endorsed such an obviously awful idea.

I know the city is desperate for tax revenue and jobs, but this type of quick-fix with so many obvious drawbacks is not the way to do it.

The OTB in Bayonne seems like a logical place... Problem is putting these half assed casinos draws the wrong element and generally customers who can't afford to be there.

Interesting story in the Times the other day which ties the failure of regional casinos to the shrinking Middle Class.

Considering the fate of the once promising Revel Casino, I hope this idea gets killed in its infancy.

Please no. Like it's not enough to have already turned every pharmacy and bodega into a casino. The American states recent addiction to lottery revenues is disgusting. It's such a regressive tax, and the "it's for education" or such is always bullshit. I think the lotteries and casinos should be like cigarettes, legal and there for those who feel the need, but illegal to advertise.

No, New Jersey needs another casino like a hole in the head. And really, it's not even worth debating what kind of impact a casino would have in Jersey City or anywhere else in the state, because as long as the companies that own the casinos in Atlantic City have anything to say about it, this will never happen. Atlantic City actually just had a casino close down (the Atlantic City Club, formerly the Hilton), and with that city's market already shrinking, all New Jersey would be doing is cannibalizing the state's gambling revenues....

So one day we have the Powerhouse Arts District, next day it's the Powerball Craps District.

I love the idea of a Monte Carlo type casino - big bucks, dress code, no Wayne Newton, etc. We can even have Grimaldi's open a pizzeria there.

The only place it would make sense IMO is at 440, or Tonnelle ave up in the heights by 555.. The missed the boat on putting it at the waterfront.

The Associated Press

Politicians in northern New Jersey have long pushed for a casino at the Meadowlands race track in East Rutherford.

But New Jersey's senate president says if gambling is ever expanded beyond Atlantic City, the Meadowlands is no sure bet.

Steve Sweeney told the Press of Atlantic City the state could opt for casinos in distressed cities like Camden, Newark or Jersey City instead of at a racetrack.

He told the newspaper's editorial board on Thursday that those cities could benefit from the economic benefits of a casino.

Sweeney also said the state-imposed tourism district in Atlantic City needs to be given the full five years that Gov. Chris Christie promised before considering gambling elsewhere in the state.

Christie said in December that the five years began in Feb. 2011.

NO!!!!!!!!
