You can actually hire people through U-Haul! I think it's called "Moving Helpers"? You can read reviews, see insurance and so forth, and it's flat-rate depending on services and who you pick. I don't know how well it works on short notice, but I had a very good experience a couple years ago -- I was moving out of a building with a freight elevator time limit, and they got everything in the truck with plenty of time to spare. We drove the truck, the guys met us at the new apartment and unloaded... and then we had the truck to ourselves for the rest of the day, so we could do an Ikea run.

There are always some fellas in the parking lot of the U-Haul place off of Tonnelle who do just that.

anyone know someone (or resource) to find someone to help me load up a few items onto a U Haul? Probably a 2-3 hour job total tomorrow morning.

I need help with a few items in DTJC and then picking up a few more items (sofa/bookcase) on the Upper West Side. All told only need help on 4 larger items.
