I've been planting in containers for years, but they require constant watering even with very large containers, which can get pretty tedious. The Rutgers link posted above was only $20 for a lead analysis, so it's not really that expensive. I'm going to look around for something a little more comprehensive than just lead.

CatDog, I highly recommend planting your vegetables in containers. It's very easy and you can control what kind of soil mix you use, etc. There is a high likelihood that your soil is contaminated with something, so in my opinion it's probably not worth the effort and/or cost to have somebody come to take samples.

A bit of both. I want to grow some vegetables, and I want to make sure the soil isn't contaminated with lead or other bad stuff.

Brokovitch was looking for contaminants, CatDog is looking for a freebie so they can plant vegetables, Hank Kimble is your man, he's in the book, lives in Pixly I believe.

Type in something like Soil Analysis, Jersey City, NJ & you may turn up something near by.

I moved into a new place and I want to do a soil test before I plant some vegetables and things in the backyard, does anyone know a service I can use to do a soil sample? Does the city or county maybe have a service?
