So as a follow up, I called JCIA and they advised that all containers labeled with a Triiangle + number are recyclable. They mentioned that those with a "1" should not have food reheated in them as they contain BHA's.
Thanks for the many replies here jclist - I had been told awhile back that we only collect the #1's and #2's and had been passing all other containers to friends and family at holiday meals. I still wish that other restaurants would follow The Taco Truck's lead and serve in cardboard-ish, post consumer waste containers - even if we had to pay a bit more.

I checked and the most recent plastic container I have does not have a recycle symbol.
The JCIA website simply says "plastic food containers" so I'm going to continue to put them in the recycle bin.

Some of those plastic soup cups with the resealable lids are PERFECT for holding frozen homemade soup when the Great Jersey City Soup Swap comes around again this winter. Just saying.

I never realized they are not recyclable. I've always put them in the recycling bin.

They are usually dishwasher top rack safe. I wash them and use them over and over again. Haven't bought Tupperware or any of those disposable plastic food storage products in years.

If they are #5's, you can bring them to Whole Foods to be recycled.

I wish that JC would ban non recyclable containers in the same way that San Francisco has done. The Taco Truck serves up all take out in cardboard containers that can easily be recycled ~ and I don 't even care if I'm paying a premium for them ~ it 's the right thing to do.
Each month I have 15 or so plastic, non recyclable containers from Chinese take out or whatever and I never know what to do with them. Sometimes they make their way to my kid 's art class as they can always use a few. But it would be way better if they didn't 't have to be single use & toss, otherwise. I feel guilty...
