I reuse them too. They are great containers for leftovers.

I checked and the most recent plastic container I have does not have a recycle symbol.
The JCIA website simply says "plastic food containers" so I'm going to continue to put them in the recycle bin.

I guess the question is for the OP, as to why he/she thinks that these containers are non-recyclable.

Jersey City doesn't recycle #5's? http://www.jciaonline.org/recsteps.php I don't see them excluded. Am I missing something?

Some of those plastic soup cups with the resealable lids are PERFECT for holding frozen homemade soup when the Great Jersey City Soup Swap comes around again this winter. Just saying.

me too. beyond recycling, I wish restaurants would take these containers back, wash them, and reuse them.

I never realized they are not recyclable. I've always put them in the recycling bin.

They are usually dishwasher top rack safe. I wash them and use them over and over again. Haven't bought Tupperware or any of those disposable plastic food storage products in years.

What other San Francisco-born innovations do you want to bring over? Reusable disease carriers? By the way, I thought that it was a good idea to remove the carbon from the circulation? What better way than to tie it in some long stable molecule, shape it into a plastic plate, use once and then bury for a long time? Discuss.

If they are #5's, you can bring them to Whole Foods to be recycled.
I bring my #5's to the Whole Foods at Union Square. http://www.preserveproducts.com/recycling/gimme5locations.html

I wish that JC would ban non recyclable containers in the same way that San Francisco has done. The Taco Truck serves up all take out in cardboard containers that can easily be recycled ~ and I don 't even care if I'm paying a premium for them ~ it 's the right thing to do.
Each month I have 15 or so plastic, non recyclable containers from Chinese take out or whatever and I never know what to do with them. Sometimes they make their way to my kid 's art class as they can always use a few. But it would be way better if they didn't 't have to be single use & toss, otherwise. I feel guilty...
