The train is good as long as you don't want to get to the game more than 2 hours before game time. Which I imagine for most people is fine. However, I meet up with a tailgate that starts right when the parking lot opens and I'd be missing out on a solid 3 hours of tailgating if I took the train so I was looking into alternate methods of getting to the stadium.
It looks like one option would be to take the PATH to Penn Station and then take the 161 Bus to the Stadium. Has anyone ever tried this? Is it decent on game days?

cheap too, and you can bring beer on the train and have yourself a good time before all the NYers get on at Secaucus!

I took this on what I believe was it's first day of operation, when the U.S. played Mexico in the Gold Cup finals. The only hitch is that there was a lonnnnng delay at Secaucus. But I think they worked out a long time ago.
It's incredibly simple, especially from Hoboken terminal since you avoid the crush of people getting on at Secaucus.

Don't be frightened by the mass of people you see going to the trains after the game. The line moves fast.

"The Meadowlands Rail Line is the best way to travel to football games and major events at MetLife Stadium. Avoid the hassle and expense of driving, traffic and parking with rail service that is fast and convenient - just 23 minutes from Hoboken Terminal and 10 minutes from Frank R. Lautenberg Station at Secaucus Junction.
From Hoboken and Secaucus, Meadowlands trains run express to the Meadowlands Rail Station, located steps away from the stadium. Service begins 3 1/2 hours before stadium events, with departures every 10 - 20 minutes, then hourly during events, and every 10 minutes afterwards" http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servle ... nPageAction=MeadowlandsTo

It's easy.
PATH to Hoboken (one-seat ride on Sundays) From there, NJ Transit goes directly to the stadium with 1 stop in Secaucus. Check njtransit.com for specific schedules. The trains start running ~3 hours before the game IIRC. You have to buy a round-trip ticket- think it's $9.

I did a search to see if this had been discussed before and couldn't find anything.
Wanted to see if anyone had a good handle on the best public transit options for getting to Met Life Stadium on a Sunday from the Grove St. area of downtown. Thanks!
