The larger redeveloped buildings (no backyards or parking garages) in the PAD can get permits, but it's impossible to find a place to park during the day and evenings because so many commuters and people jumping on to the Path park their cars in area. Bar and restaurant patrons suck up space too. But then you add the folks that live in the buildings with parking garages also parking on the street overnight making it harder to find a spot.
Too much random vandalism because the streets aren't lit on every block and if you leave the neighborhood in the middle of the day you can't find a place to park when you come back. Add four active construction sites - we have lost entire blocks of parking spaces - a nightmare! We gave up and got a spot in a garage.

It's not new. 4 years for srue, but possibly, 7 or more. I live in a building that offers parking but didn't have spaces available at the time. Still coudn't get one. This was back when Fulop first was elected councilman. I exchanged emails with his office and the PA but no go. I believe it was even brought to the council for a vote. Bottom line, cant get a parking permit? Thanks Obama.

It's been in effect at least 4 years, as far as downtown JC goes. It does suck, but when you think about it, there are a ton of garages with over 100 cars in them. If all of us were allowed access to the street, parking would be beyond possible.
Trust me, I want them to figure out a better way to do it, because garage parking is very expensive. Quote:

thats becuase you arent a section 8.
they get back yards and free parking right in front of their unit. if you want a street parking permit you cannot have one. and most certainly will have to pay for it. becuase you dont deserve it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHa

Was planning on renewing my permit next week. How long has this policy been in effect?
Being denied a permit just because you have the option of paying for a private spot is absolutely ridiculous.

Unfortunately, it's been that way for a while. Even if you have to pay for the parking your building offers. It's the only way to keep the street parking from becoming impossibly crowded (it's close).

So I went into the Jersey City Parking Authority yesterday to transfer my parking permit to my new car and the lady there informed me of a new ordinance. Apparently, you can no longer get a street parking permit if you live in a building that offers you parking. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
