We managed to find parking right there. No beer on tap!! $4.25 for a bottle of Heineken, the same for a bottle of Brooklyn Lager-no glasses, of course. God awful (tough and thick skin) won tons in spicy garlic sauce. Decent shrimp rolls. House vodka was Zemkoff, never heard of it-but the smart guy next to me knocked back 3 Absolut and cranberries in about ten minutes-the bartender gave him pretty nice pours it seemed. Worth a return visit? Not for me.

P.S. Great memories at the Showboat. That's where all of us Greenville Kids would go on the weekend.

Yeah those were the days like I said in other threads we didn?t even have to leave JC to have a good time. Live music, beer, and a 3am sober up meal. Showboat, Soap Creek, O?Hara?s* (by SPU) hard to believe there would be lines of people waiting to get in. Some nights there would even be a cover charge depending on how good the band was. Same as the diner?s at 3:00 am VIP, Al?s, and the Colonette (even WC) had to wait up to an hour just to order my eggs.

Here is another Westside gem that will take you back to old JC. Gary?s Sweet Shoppe 444 Westside. The place is in a 50 year time warp. Sad that counter places like this use to be all over JC back in the day. All gone.

Here is an interesting piece about Gary?s and a ..err I mean.. THE JET.

Politi: Jets' success isn't sweet for Super Bowl III star Matt Snell

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010 ... jets_success_isnt_sw.html

*I don?t know if the DT O?Hara?s has anything to do with the old one over on the corner of Glenwood and Westside. Interesting story it used to be another place called the Glenwood Inn (??) when the new owners were looking for a name they looked out of the window across into the Cemetery. The first thing they saw a tall tomb with the name O?Hara on it.

Do you mean New Park Tavern?

no, he doesn't. No move along.

I second that!

Herny?s Wok is the greatest invention in JC. Here?s the trick to ordering take out.

Don?t call in advance go there to place your order in the back then hit the bar for a nice cold one while you are waiting for your take out.

You don?t have to worry about getting nailed with a DWI on the way home because the food is ready after your first beer. No time for a second round.

Food is great.

JC History: There is a restaurant across the street called the Bamboo Garden. It used to be a club called The Showboat Lounge in the 70?s. It was one of the cool places to go in JC for music and brew.

A bar that doubles as a Chinese restaurant? Anyone been? It looks like it may be worth a visit for grins and giggles.
