I went the Manhattan route, both ways, no traffic at 2AM either way-just some detours on the Van Wyck and around JFK itself. Roundtrip came to 48 miles, and it was about 35 minutes each way.

Canal St on a weekday is a crapshoot, no matter the hour. (Lots of pre-dawn delivery vans.)

Agreed, I drive into work from time to time and Canal street is a hot mess at all times of the day.

Flying out of Newark would be the best route...

You might consider the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel.

I think we'll go through Manhattan on the way there, then come back via the bridges-only paying the Holland Tunnel toll that way. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I'm from Bklyn and my gf works in Brooklyn.... Here's how we go...

To JFK:
1. 1/9 & 440 South to Bayonne Bridge/SI Expwy
2. SI Expwy to Verrazano Bridge to Belt Pkwy East
3. Belt Pkwy East to JFK Expwy/Van Wyck (I-678)

From JFK: (Different to avoid the $15 toll @ the Verrazano)
1. Van Wyck (I-678) North to L.I.E. West (I-495).
2. L.I.E. West (I-495) to B.Q.E. West (I-278)
3. B.Q.E. West (I-278) to Brooklyn Bridge
4. From Brooklyn Bridge- Left on Chambers St, Right on Hudson St to Holland Tunnel
5. Holland Tunnel to wherever you're going in JC

Sounds complex but its works the savings of $15!

I would go into the Holland Tunnel, down Canal, left at Centre, right Kenmare into Delancey that takes you to the Williamsburg bridge, BQE (278 East) to the LIE (495E) then onto the Van Wyck.

It's before rush, so you should be okay - the Limo services always takes this route from JC to JFK

Hi there,

There's a cross road right in front of the entrance to Port Liberte - Chapel Ave - if you go up Chapel Ave and make a left by the cemetery (I don't know what the street is named, so sorry) and continue straight for about a mile, you'll end up on Broadway in Bayonne. Take Broadway all the way down until you see the entrance to the Bayonne Bridge. Get over the Bayonne Bridge 440 south to Staten Island Expressway via the V-N Bridge to Belt Parkway to JFK. That's always the fastest way I've found.

Give yourself time though - you can make it in 45 minutes or be stuck in G-d awful traffic! Good luck.
