Ha, agreed, hope we get IU to ease the gauntlet a little bit. Always like to see RU alums in JC (I know there's a ton by gear and all the Block R Magnets around)!

Your idea is great, but when it comes to NJ politics, I have my doubts. I'd take a lame pedestrian bridge on Marin and/or Manila this way people from downtown can get to Home Depot, Buy Rite, A&P, Target, and Hoboken, and vice-versa.

I was going to meet a friend for dinner and got hit (luckily I wasn't hurt as the car was going slow). I had the light to cross Marin, and a car turning left from Marin onto 14th didn't see me. It's dangerous over there, no question, and there are lots of pedestrians and will be even more with Cast Iron and the other complexes.

That development sounds pretty cool.

RUinHamiltonPark (by the way, Rutgers is placed in a very tough division in B1G East Division!) - your comment about the bridge over the Holland Tunnel roadways just spurred a cool thought in my head. What if the entire inbound and outbound lanes of the tunnel were covered with one giant bridge, the width of which would stretch from say Coles Street to Marin Blvd, and make the entire "bridge" a nice sized park! Fully green (no playgrounds etc) just green lawns and landscaped walkways.

How cool would that be? It would be a real showcase, would probably have nice views, and would encourage inter-Hoboken-JC pedestrianism and make the whole area more lively.

I forget what the development is called but it is on downtown JC redevelopment map...it has addresses on Hoboken Avenue.

I think they are investigating a new stop at 18th and Jersey. I don't it's been cemented.

The area north of the Holland is one of the last frontiers, so to speak, downtown aside from 700 Grove and Zephyr and the Newport complexes to the east.

The goal I think is to be close to the Hoboken PATH, but Newport PATH isn't that far off from that area.

Eventually they are going to have to build a bridge to get across. It makes too much sense.

I'm confused as to why they would spend millions to build a walkway to the 2nd Street station when there is a proposed Light Rail Station RIGHT there near Newark St/Hoboken Ave.

I've heard about proposed development in that entire no-man's-land between the Holland Tunnel and Hoboken. Does anybody know if a lot of those warehouses, etc are currently in use? Or is it basically a wasteland at this point?

I guess once you are north of the Holland Tunnel you are closer to the Hoboken PATH. But this part of Jersey City would definitely be rather cut off from the rest of the city by the 10 lanes of Holland Tunnel roadway.

What development are they building this for? Will it be as big as Cast Iron Lofts?? Must be significant if they're shelling out $4 million for this.

"Project Scope:
The project is the construction of an approximately half-mile pedestrian pathway from the site of a planned residential development at the junction of Hoboken Avenue and Newark Avenue in Jersey City to the 2nd Street Station of the HBLR in Hoboken. The pathway will also feature lighting, landscaping, CCTV and call-for-aid boxes."

Please also note that in addition to lightrail/walkway construction, I believe Spectra Energy has a big white tent up where they are installing pipe for the pipeline...

The 2nd st. Light Rail stop is not new.

I believe JC is building a park and walkway that will connect the 2nd St stop to to the redevelopment area on the other side of the tracks. Then: More condos!!

Yes, it's a lightrail stop. I drove back there the other day and saw the new lightrail sign...the stop is called 2nd St or something with 2nd in it.
