I'm looking for suggestions for a reasonably priced salon/stylist ...preferably here in JC / Hoboken but NYC ok, too.

It's fantastic! I've taken 3 classes so far with 3 different teachers and each one was amazing. Such a great addition to downtown JC and the only studio (that I'm aware of) that pretty much has classes every hour. The space is gorgeous, the location is accessible, the prices are competitive and the instructors are very helpful and very professional. Great experience so far and SO happy they are here!

I too have been looking for options. Every year my family gets involved with Operation Santa out of the Farley PO in NYC. This year I also wanted to do something local.
So far I've found:
St. Lucy's Shelter / Jerseycares.org
York Street Project / Yorkstreetproject.org
Angela Cares (senior advocacy) / angelacares.org

Would be interested in hearing of others too...

Agree with deli @ 7th and Erie. Bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel. YUM... It's the best I've found. Owners are hard working, really lovely people too!

Thanks for the all the recs...that's why I love this community! Ended up at Zep Hall and worked out great. So glad to have a future list, too.

To the clowns that suggested "home"...thanks for the chuckle but you can go back to the circus now.

Friends from out of town visiting just for the evening. Planned on Surf City, just realized they aren't open Mondays. We both have toddlers so any reco's for places good for all would be appreciated. Zep Hall is our back up plan but any other suggestions?

Any Labradoodle Rescues nearby?

Would love to rescue a Labradoodle. Does anyone know of any nearby/local groups? Or suggestions on where to look?

I've never gone to a breeder and really don't want to start now but my son has allergies and it's been suggested that a Labradoodle is the best choice for us.

Thanks.

Re: Drivers and Crosswalks

Everyday I have to cross Newark at the intersection of Waldo & Pavonia by Dickinson High School twice, while walking to pick up my son from daycare and again walking back with him. I cannot even count the number of times we have come close to being mowed down. In addition, the number of near misses (major rear end collisions) that I witness happen when one civil driver/car decides to be nice enough to stop for me/us in a crosswalk. It's terrifying and just seems so completely and entirely absurd. I really just don't understand.

Hi Ida
My 2 cents is that you should consider joining the JC moms meetup group. I can tell you that it's been a fantastic resource for me and my family. There really are very few rules and most are common sense and entirely fair for a group its size (600-700 members). Since I'm not a SAHM, I don't get out to that many events but I find the ones I do attend on weekends or the ones I am interested in, partners/families are welcome. I also like that the group is diverse and usually I can find different perspectives on the discussion board. Honestly, I would probably like it even better if it were more diverse and inclusive of partners, single parents, non-traditional families, etc...but it is what it is. I'd say in particular, the first year was invaluable. Hope that helps.

Listening is great...but hoping someone can recommend a therapist that can not only listen...but will also kick my butt, put me to work, give me some tools, etc.
If they take Horizon Blue Cross, even better...

Thanks in advance...
