What's with the disappearing servers there? Are they in the kitchen cooking? Is there some fabulous lounge in the back?

Well, I paid and kept the drink, was just trying to surprise the lady with a treat. Didn't think bailing on it or making a scene was worth it. So yes, Beechwood won.

Beechwood has been banking on their location and their curb appeal far too long. Food and service are nothing more than mediocre on any given day. The last time I went our server seated us and promptly disappear for 20 minutes. I went inside to find her sitting at a table counting out her tips. No apology, just "oh, someone will be with you soon."

Service has definitely not improved. Went a few weeks ago and waitresses just seem to disappear. I also tried their corned beef hash, and it was pretty bizarre, really wouldn't recommend it.

Oh and one other visit to just get some drinks up front, I clearly ordered a Cafe White Mocha for my wife. They made a white hot chocolate. When I asked about the coffee they requested a dollar more, c'mon I didn't make the mistake there.

I've never had any problems with the service at Beechwood. It is what it is, decent food that won't break the bank.

I do love their broccoli salad.

We wrote off Beechwood a few years ago. After several instances of poor service (messing up order, asking what we ordered several times, and then telling us they were out of several things only to hear someone next to us order one of them), we bailed on supporting them.

Have these issues changed and we should try them again?

I noticed these makeovers as well. I always wondered about how sanitary Shadman was because of the suspiciously affordable price and plain bordering on dingy interior. But I've heard good things about the food.

I agree that beechwood needs to rotate their menu, but I do love their mushroom hash on the brunch menu. Haven't had anything like it anywhere else. With a side of bacon it's deeeelicious.

I stopped by Beechwood for the first time in months yesterday to see that they revamped their entire space. The front counter has been moved back, and the little shop in front has been mostly cannibalized to make room for more seating. So there are now tables in both rooms, as well as a long set of communal tables in the main dining space.

Not sure if there has been any change to the menu or service otherwise, but I am glad to see any restaurant that is willing to grow and change with the demand (a la Park & Sixth.)

I was also pleased to see that Shadman across the street finally revamped their dining space. They always had decent food at a low price, but the ambiance in there was like a middle school cafeteria. Looks like there is new seating, lighting, and a great big mural to go along with the cleaned-up counter top.

If all the competition from the new restaurants in the neighborhood are forcing the established ones to up their game, that is definitely a good thing.

I wish they would do one of two things... 1. If they are going have items on the menu for customers to order , have the ingredients to make it! ( there have been multiple occasions where either my husband or my self had to go to our 3rd or 4th choice because they kept telling us they didn't have what we ordered ie: vegi burger) and 2. Actually have servers who have personalities and know what they are doing. If it was not for the good "clean" food we would never return but thats what keeps us going back...

They're just getting around to repairing the kitchen/equipment now? Glad I haven't been eating there...

A sign in the window says they're repairing the kitchen and equipment from damage from Sandy.

Hey, does anybody know what's going on with the Beechwood Cafe? Windows are papered over, and it looks like there is some work going on inside.
