Thank you so much SRhia. I am going to try walking it even though you would think the stores and management of the plaza would make the trip pedestrian friendly.

I did the trek today - not bad at all (not counting the rain!).

Because of the rain, I did a fast walk, and it took less than 10 min from the train station to Michaels. Asif - you're right, once I got the the highway, there's no sidewalk on my side anymore, so I just crossed over at the light to the opposite side, where there is a sidewalk leading all the way to Michaels (which by the way, has a great sale going on!).

When I got to the highway, Michaels looked REALLY far!!! But once I started walking, it was not that bad.

I was the only one walking to and fro, but it was not scarry or anything like that. Given it was middle of the day, the traffic wasn't that bad, and crossing at the light didn't feel too dangerous either. I made it back in one piece.

I don't recall there being any sidewalk once you have to make the left turn to head towards the Walmart and other shops. Let me know how the experience was SRhia. Thanks!

I have walked that stop walking over to Winner's Resturant Race Book... neighborhood looks rough, but never had a problem... I cross 440 away from lights and intersection, usually have time to cross to median or across both lanes when the lights are red. Found intersection worse cause you dont know whats red/green.

I wouldn't attempt it. You never know what could happen, even the second you step out the door.

I've taken the light rail to 22nd street and walked to Bayonne Crossing a couple of times. It takes me only about 10 minutes to walk there. If you're elderly or just a very slow-moving individual it could take longer.

Bayonne has a community shuttle that you could take from the light rail station to the shopping center. But it doesn't run very frequently. You'd be out in the cold longer waiting for the bus than just walking over to Bayonne Crossing. Here's info on the shuttle anyway: http://www.bayonnenj.org/cgi-bin/news/news.cgi?news=2374

I consider the walk to be safe. Crime isn't a big worry there, but (as others suggested) the traffic on Route 440 moves quickly and you need to be careful when crossing the highway.

BTW, is there a bus that goes directly into the Bayonne Crossings?

Just cross at the lights and you'll be fine. I'd say it's more like a 20-minute walk, though.

Like Jersey mom said cross ONLY at lights/cross walks and watch out for turning cars. Be very careful crossing 440.

The South Cove Commons Shopping area is the one with the Stop & Shop, Movie Theater, Houlihan's, Staples, Hallmark, Wendy?s, DD, Subway, TJ Maxx, etc. People get off at the 34th street station and cross over 440 no where near the cross walks. They also cross in the middle of the jug handle by the light rail parking lot that gets you to the Commons. I am surprised no one has gotten killed.

Yeah the 22nd street station is not a bad walk to the Bayonne Crossings Shopping Center. That?s the one with Wal-mart, Lowes, Michaels, Five Guys, Wonder Bagel, Sonic, TGI Friday, Longhorn, Panda Express, a Mexican joint, Muscle Maker, NYSC, a dollar store(OMG!!), etc.

Those are two nice shopping area?s. JC should have a few like that!!!

Is it safe for a petite female to walk from the 22nd Str Light Rail train station to the Michaels / walmart in Bayonne on a weekday (during the day). According to Google maps, it's a 10-min walk, and I'm not sure how populated / busy the area is.

Thanks in advance.
