I just spoke to the Mayor's action bureau regarding multiple lamp outages on Bergen Ave. between Montogmery & Communipaw. These are those newly installed double headed streetlights that look "old-fashioned" in style. I was informed that PSEG does not handle these style of lamps, but rather the city does. So if you have any outages with these newer "old fashioned" ones, call the Mayor's Action Bureau to report these for repair.

I was just by Ege Avenue and Kennedy Blvd. It is very dim and the block by Morton Place is just completely dark. The City really needs to invest into street lighting somehow.

Listen, I've driven over this road so many times that I could do it blindfolded. However, that doesn't preclude the fact that even in perfect road conditions, it's really dangerous (ask any cop in the area, they all know). For example, I sat for 30 minutes just this Friday evening (~8:30) as they cleared an accident from the southern end of the highway, where the lights DO work, yet an accident bad enough to completely close the southern-bound lanes occured. Any and everything that can be done to make the road even slightly safer SHOULD be. But just in case you've never driven it yourself, yes, even with your headlights on, it's difficult to see the road.

Um, hit me with a bat maybe, I'm not getting this. Does your car not have lights that you turn on at night to see where you are driving?

Another week has passed, and still no lights on the Pulaski (until you get to the Jersey City portion)...

Light pollution? It's a city. You can watch the stars in a rural area.

I live on JFK and Duncan. While there is lighting on JFK, it seems incredibly dim. especially on the walk from JFK at Duncan to the PATH train. Not sure what can be done about it city-wide, but would love to see some improvements all over.

There has to be a way for people and drivers to be safe but also for ways to cut light pollution and energy consumption. Happy New Years y'all!

So the whole Pulaski - at least the Kearny portion - has been in the dark again, since Sandy hit. According to this article, the hurricane knocked out the power sources - but supposedly, the lights should have been restored over a week ago. What's up??? Does anyone not realize that the road, even in perfect condition, is dangerous enough - let alone when it's completely unlit???

It is a virtue of Jersey City to be able to look up at the night sky and see stars. I would love to see JC install lighting that is well thought out regarding preventing light pollution.

Wow, that's timely! Thanks for the update - hopefully they do get it done. I'm amazed that it likely took the newspaper involvement (I know they credit the JC cop) to get the attention - it's been this way for at least a year, if not more. Almost the entire length is a drive in the pitch-black.

I've seen these Nelson Ave. up in the Heights seems to have them. They disguise themselves as a dim or weak light but I believe it is specificlly designed so not to be too bright or direct. However the Head Start school has flood lights at the rear of their Building brightly illuminating Columbia Ave. annoying the neighbors in proximity of the beam.

All over JC, all over NJ, there are so many lights out on highways and the turnpike and I've assumed it was a way to cut back on paying for electricity.

I leave my porch light on all night, every night. Wish my neighbors would do the same.

... By Danforth its like a tunnel, I drove my bike down on Garfield next to the Bayview cemetery and there was only lights on one side of the street if anyone was walking on the other side you would never see them coming. You wonder why its dangerous to walk at night here. This city needs to act more like a city, some parts of this town looks like a ghost town.

Could it be a street light that is out ? The city pays one price whether the light of on or off. Report this to the Mayor's Office (201) 547-4900 and get a case number. And also report it to PSE&G http://pseg.com/home/customer_service ... _info/streetlight_out.jsp

I've wondered this about the Pulaski, as well - almost the whole length has the lights off, and when you're East-bound and come up to the bend around the Broadway exit, it can be difficult to see, especially if a car is coming at you with their headlights on. I've driven the road thousands of times and could probably do it blindfolded, but I have to think it's caused accidents for others.

This is true, and even more so in the spring and summer. Most of the trees lining the streets are shorter then the streetlights, so not much light seems to make it to the street at all.

Agreed. The lighting conditions on Manila Ave between 2nd and 6th street are pretty bad, especially the block along the embankment.

Went riding the other night and noticed if your not downtown near the Grove street path, the city is very dark in the evening and the further away you go from the downtown area the darker the streets are. Even some parts of the water front are dark and not enough light.
