While the noise has abated somewhat - the generators are still in use and some days - like right now - it sounds like the big one is running again - it's really annoying. Anyone have any further news on when the generators will be GONE?

I use to work in this building before the storm. All of the electric was in the basement and when it got flooded everything was ruined. As someone mentioned it won't be open for another 4-6 months. I could NOT stand the management in the building I am not surprised they are running the generators all night. Go get em!!!
FYI: the owner of the building is the shipping company Evergreen. Hence Evertrust.

Thanks for the info! I can't believe that huge one wasn't even necessary (but not shocked either).
Good to have the noise complaint number - we were almost losing it at night and our building management played dumb.

Here's an update.
yesterday i called the Hudson County Health Commissioner, per the recommendation from Councilman Fulop's office. The Hudson county health commissioner dispatched an inspector who heard the generators and spoke with on-site contractors. The inspector was able to get them to turn off one of the larger, noisier generators (they did not actually even need to be running it!!!). They can't turn off the other generators because apparently they are are running (a backup?) for the Chicago stock exchange or something like that. The best news though is that apparently the have just about finalized the repairs and now they are hoping to get a permit from Jersey City next week that will allow them to turn on the electricity in the building again, and once that happens, they should (hopefully!) be able to turn off the generators. By the way, i did file a complaint through the city system and it never got addressed...i think it's one approach, but speaking to a local politician (especially one running for mayor) ended up proving more helpful!

I had a similar issue with generators at st bridgets church.
i contacted the city via the online "complaint" service. i beleive you can access it from the .gov website. if you phrase it politely and explain the situation, they will look into for you and reply. St. bridgets was running a genrator for heat, and this did not apply to the electricity rule. the generators were gone about a week after my notice to them.

Hi,
There have been a number of messages posted about the non-stop generators running 24/7 at Evertrust Plaza. Residents of nearby buildings have been forced to listen to these generators non-stop for more than 2 months now, with no sign of any change, no communication to the community from the building's owners, and no support from local city government to address complaints. I have been in touch with Councilman Fulop's offfice - up til now i have not received a satisfactory response from them. They have just told me that residents affected by the noise should file complaints with the Hudson Regional Health Commission and they will do a decibel reading. Here's the number to call: 201. 223.1133 Let them know that you would like to file a complaint. You will be contacted by an inspector to arrange a date and time. If you live nearby and are affected, please CALL. Otherwise there will be no end in sight!!!!!

Hi,
I've contacted Steve Fulop's office multiple times about this since early November as the generators have been running 24/7 with no end in sight, no community outreach from the building or it's contractors and no rest from the interminable noise. JC noise ordinances require that any construction or emergency construction must have a permit that is renewed every 3 days. I have gone over there several times and have not seen these permits. Fulop's office initially said there was nothing they could do (because the building sustained such damage), but it's been almost 3 months, so this is no longer a valid excuse. The last I heard from them they had contacted the city's legal department to find out what could be done. If i don't hear back from them by Friday, i'm contacting the Jersey Journal and will be looking into possible legal action options.

ok question for you guys - in the office building (while with blue glass) on the corner of Warren and Columbus next to 50 columbus what is with the ongoing generators running ALL NIGHT LONG.
is this normal? I notice that neighbors below me have terraces - I can' even imagine they are useable. Is this just because of Sandy - is there really a need for 3 industrial sized generators going 6 weeks later? Any info would be great - I'm slightly worried about the spring/summer - I'm not going to be able to open my windows. And I'm not talking about the Path ventalation system. thanks
