I can't tell you how disappointed I am to click on a thread called Skylark Diner and read this.

It's odd that they are appropriating the term "diner" when they are pretty clearly a restaurant.
I think it's to mess with the heads of the large immigrant Asian population of Newport.

There was an unusually large crowd at and around the restaurant this Sunday, most likely due to the half marathon finish line across the street.

Does anyone know what's up with this place? We tried to go on Sunday for lunch and they wouldn't seat us because the kitchen was backed up by 20 minutes (that was their guess). The place was maybe a third full. We couldn't even sit and have drinks. So strange.

My girlfriend and I checked this place out on a whim the other day. The decor is definitely not "diner" except for maybe the booths. We were thoroughly impressed with the wait staff, probably the best service we've ever had in JC. Two managers were even continuously walking the floor which was great to see. The food was very good and the portions were nicely sized. Lots a great seafood options on the menu. We'll definitely go back.

Yelp has some pretty negative reviews of this place which was not our experience at all; maybe management took notice?

I had lunch last week the California burger was very good, juicy hamburger meat, on top of the burger was shoestring fried onions, thin slices of jalapeno and guacamole. The only disappointment was limp french fries. Service was attentive.

Had take out last night, spent $28 for 2 burgers, with the topper that I had to pony up an extra 3 bucks for Fries (which they forgot to put in the bag).

The food was good and they bake their own bread which will be nice to pick up in the morning. But don't call or think its a diner.

I tried this on Saturday and it was great. The Ny Strip that my husband had was awesome and I had the salmon.
They have great drinks and a good wine list.
The staff was helpful and friendly. It's going to be an awesome spot for brunch since its going to be open since 7 am everyday! Great stop before heading to the city!

The food is great.
Here's an excerpt from their press release:

Craig Shelton the former chef and owner of Ryland Inn, has mentored the culinary team that features Chef de Cuisine Leonardo Marino, previously from Le Bernardin, Bouley Bakery and Jean Georges in N.Y. The critically-acclaimed chefs will prepare perfectly prepared pancakes in the morning transitioning to slow-braised short-ribs in agrodolce sauce in the evening.

The place looks nice, I'm tempted to try the lobster mac and cheese that's on the menu, they opened last Thursday, I'll give them a few more days to get settled into their routines before I try it.

that's awesome! I went to this place in Edison and it was really cool. Like an trendy, old-school style diner but with real food, not diner food. This will be a great addition!
