It would be nice if they could keep the old bank lobby, it was quite impressive and would work well as a hotel lobby.

Had take out last night, spent $28 for 2 burgers, with the topper that I had to pony up an extra 3 bucks for Fries (which they forgot to put in the bag).

The food was good and they bake their own bread which will be nice to pick up in the morning. But don't call or think its a diner.

Most Grand Juries are once a week for a period of time. You may not have to go all day every week, depending on the case load. It really is interesting, even if you will feel like a rubber stamp.

New channels here

http://www.comcastworldofmore.com/jerseycity/

All the HD channels are now in the 800's and they are grouped together by type better, which is nice.

Now if they can get Fox Soccer Channel in HD, that would be sweet.

For the record the TV switch was pre ownership change.

And you forgot the new XM radio music. I hear they want to 'renovate' as well, which isn't cool.

I love how my food takes longer now they have computers.

And of course their only suggestion is to wait around for another technician.

But I can't get Fios in my hood (not sure why) and I'm not technically savvy enough to know what other options would be. I'm not as concerned about the TV, mostly the Internet - but does anyone have the DirecTV/Verizon DSL deal? Comments?

Any other options for TV/internet I should be considering?

Comcast TV is mostly OK but I would love to get rid of them altogether, I am so frustrated right now.

I had the same problems and Comcast was telling me it was the modem, but it turned out to be the splitter, I would check that first, they seem to go.

The Gov. had no intention of asking everyone to sacrifice.

And if those making over a million are paying less taxes this year, its a tax cut, no matter how you spin it.

The thing the Gov (and the others who seem to be anti education) doesn't seem to understand is that the teachers are bound by collective bargaining. They give way individual rights for their compensation. If the Gov want or needs to change that he needs to talk to the Union, not try to force it upon them. Maybe talking would fix things a bit.

The knee jerk reaction wins, and now the Mayor has something to hold over people's head when he pushes and gets a real bad idea through. Lets see how the powerhouse turns out now....

This was such a good idea on so many levels is was doomed to fail. F1 wants to be here, bad, so bad that for once JC and NJ was holding all the cards. The park would have gotten a 3+ mile bike and jogging trail for 50 weeks a year, plus a building or two that could be used for multiple purposes, everything Albert Park has had, but with somebody else paying for it!

LSP was and is a great idea and a great park, but we need to leverage its use. It's a prime area to hold events because of the view, and people will pay for that backdrop. People don't come to JC because its JC, they come cause NYC is on the other side of the river. We need to deal with that and take advantage of that. Having a F1 race means your name is known the world over, would I or anyone else here know a park in Melbourne if it didn't hold a race?

The rewards really outweighed the risks on this one, but a knee jerk reaction may kill it. I don't think its dead yet cause I'm not sure how many around here realize the financial might of F1, where drivers make $50 Mil/yr., but this really needed to be vetted out more.

No, it's not. It's about three hours of practice on Friday, two hours of qualifying on Saturday and the three hour race on Sunday. Perhaps you should all read about what an F1 race is really all about before spouting off. NASCAR it is not.

And while I'm a huge F1 fan, I really don't see this happening in JC--when you look at the other venues F1 has chosen for a Grand Prix, this city just doesn't have the amenities and infrastructure. Or the money.

It's funny that in Europe and Asia cities are falling over one another to host a Grand Prix but there has not been one in the US since 2006. And as for the amount of money this would bring to JC if it did happen, be careful what you wish for. Bernie Eccelstone, the commercial rights holder of F1, is notoriously greedy and has put the screws to cities after they have expended millions preparing for a race. Montreal and the nearly-canceled Canadian Grand Prix is merely the most recent example. It will be televised live on Speed this coming Sunday, by the way--go Jenson--you should watch to see what it's really all about. And for the record, the Montreal race is held in an urban park, Parc Jean-Drapeau. And so is the Australian race, come to think of it--Albert Park in Melbourne.

And although being able to walk to one of the greatest sporting events in the world would be effing awesome, if I'm honest, I have to say I would prefer that F1 returned to its US roots and held races at historic tracks like Watkins Glen, Sears Point, Road Atlanta (ok, not so historic, but still) or Elkhart Lake. These are purpose-built, longstanding race courses that would not have all the sturm und drang associated with a new course And it would be less costly to upgrade one of them to the needs of a Grand Prix than to build a new track. But you can bet your last dollar that Bernie will never go for that--just look at the monstrous courses that places like Bahrain, Dubai, Turkey and China have recently built for their races. The truth is that the US races have been a joke since the sport abandoned the old tracks, with the "parking lot races" in Dallas, Vegas, etc. and the train wrecks that were the Indianapolis races on the jerry-rigged infield track at the Speedway. Until a major US city gets behind a race like the European and Asian cities do--and has the money--I don't think we will see a US race.

Big F1 Fan here as well, and as much as I would love to see F1 back in Oct at the Glen, all of those tracks are too far from cities for Bernie's liking. Heck, even Indy was too much of a hick town.

Bernie is under tremendous pressure to get F1 back to the US. Its where most of the sponsors are. He's been trying to get to NY for years, first it was downtown, then Flushing, now JC. I think he may actually shell out some $ to get this done.

F1 journalist and blogger Joe Saward wrote this up this morning, and I think its spot on (http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/05/04/thoughts-on-jersey-city/) You look what F1 has done for Albert Park and the same could happen here. LSP could be a better place because of this.

After looking at the proposal, this is a really good idea. They do this in Australia every year, and in Detroit as well. For 3 days they rest, the rest of the year you have a trail for park use. You would sell it out with a world wide audience, its only the second biggest sport in the world. And the park would be in better shape then a weekend concert.

Jersey City Councilman Steven Lipski is No. 1 threat at Washington club

BY RICH SCHAPIRO
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Sunday, November 9th 2008, 12:06 AM

A drunken Jersey City councilman was arrested for urinating on a crowd of concertgoers from the balcony of a Washington nightclub, police and club sources said Saturday.

Councilman Steven Lipski was caught relieving himself onto several revelers at the 9:30 Club during a concert by a Grateful Dead tribute band Friday night, club sources said.

"He was very drunk," the source said, noting that it wasn't the first time Lipski had caused a ruckus at the popular concert venue.

"We've dealt with this man before," the source added. "He's never peed on anybody, but he gets really belligerent and drunk."

Lipski, 44, was hauled out of the club about 9:50 p.m. after staffers spotted him in the act on the concert hall's second-floor balcony and called the cops.

The crass councilman, who is serving his second term in office since getting elected in 2001, was charged with simple assault, police said.

Attempts to reach Lipski were unsuccessful Saturday night. His aide, Irina Zaki, said the councilman was in Washington Friday night, but she had no knowledge of his arrest.

The lurid incident marks the second time in recent years that a Jersey City pol was caught with his pants down.

Photos showing Jerramiah Healy, still a councilman at the time, naked and passed out on his front stoop were widely circulated in 2004 days before he was elected mayor.

The ramp is in between the stairs to the platforms.

I head north via the subway (2) so I'm going to miss my underground route when it rains, but I think its going to be easier for me to walk to Chambers and W. Broadway and miss Church St altogether.

I'm thinking though, where can you put the entrance? If you have to close Church St so you can build the new station, where the entrance is now is the only place where you can put the entrance without facing construction.

Thanks to Sonia over at NWA, a letter in today's JJ. This is the second largest city in New Jersey isn't it, and this is how our leaders act?

Makes me want to stay around town longer and help Fulop become mayor (or whatever city office he wants to run for)

Quote:

Sonia
NWA President

Default A Birthday Message for Steve Fulop

We thought the following letter from Retired Police Chief Troy, published in today's Jersey City Journal, says it well enough:

An open letter to Councilman Steve Fulop:

Happy Birthday Stevie. A year older usually translates to a year wiser, not in your case. You never fail to amuse, and I thank you for that.

I hope you are running for Mayor in 2009. You will have to talk about your accomplishments as councilman in Ward E, therein lies the problems. So far you don't have any, and it's getting late.

The bad news is Mayor Healy will teach you a valuable lesson, and you will lose. The good news is Ward E will get representation that other council members can take seriously.

Performance Review Survey, good one. I believe Mayor Healy and the council know full well what the problems are and the results of the last two years can't be challenged. You were quoted on three separate occasions trying to compare me with the current chief.

Stevie check your survey, there is no comparison. Jersey City now enjoys a substantially lower crime rate for many reasons, You or the current chief are not one of them. Comey's short tenure as Chief precludes anyone from criticizing or congratulating him. the crime results for 2007 will determine the current Chief's success or failure.

You stated you were using your survey to create a plan and a map to present to the council. I think it is safe to assume they are holding their breath in anticipation. You might want to incorporate your impression of "Chicken Little" like only you can at the presentation.

See you soon,
Robert Troy (Retired Chief, J.C.P.D.)

It was on Ch 7 late news tonight, probably because right now he can't be found....

from nj.com

A 2-year-old boy has died from the injuries suffered last week in a wreck on the Pulaski Skyway, and the off-duty Jersey City cop who was allegedly drunk when he rear-ended the family's car is now sought on charges of aggravated manslaughter, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said tonight.

Jersey City Police Officer Kevin Freibott, who posted 10 percent of $50,000 bail after being initially charged on assault by auto and driving while intoxicated charges, was to be arrested on the new charges earlier tonight, DeFazio said. But Freibott couldn't be found at his Red Bank home earlier today and police are still looking for him, DeFazio said around 6 p.m.

Jose Carlo Zelaya died Saturday night at University Hospital in Newark, four days after the crash on the Pulaski Skyway. His mother, Ruth Zelaya, is still in critical condition at the Jersey City Medical Center.

First as a born and raised Jersey guy (Bergen and Hudson Cty.) I take a little offense to this "its so Jersey" thing. Last time I checked, which was 10 min. ago, there is one ESPN Zone in NYC and 0 in Jersey. There is a Hard Rock in AC however.

What I would like to see at the Powerhouse is something that will reflect the neighborhood that it will be surrounding. Therefore I think it should hold something similar to what is in the Time Warner Building in Columbus Circle. Mid to upscale restaurants and bars, no chains, but named chiefs maybe. A live music space maybe. Some retail, but a book and music store, with some small niche shops. There will be lots of people within spitting, much less walking distance soon enough and they will expect things that are targeted to them and their wallets.

Jersey City hospital's ER is shut down
Certification lapses
Friday, August 04, 2006
Associated Press

State health officials yesterday shut down the emergency room at the Jersey City Medical Center over a lapse in certification.

The shutdown involved loss of the hospital's certification from the American College of Surgeons, Gretchen Michael, a spokeswoman with the state Department of Health and Senior Services, confirmed last night.

Michael wasn't sure why the certification was allowed to expire on June 20, or when the hospital would be able to resume operating its trauma center.

"Hopefully, it'll be sorted out in short order," said Michael, who added that patients were being diverted to other hospitals.

State regulations require the hospital to have the certification in order to be licensed as a trauma center, Michael said.

The hospital's public relations office did not return calls for comment last night.

The emergency room at Jersey City Medical Center's Wilzig Hospital serves New Jersey's second-largest city and surrounding area, handling 190 to 200 patients a day on average, spokesman Bill Dauster said Wednesday.

It is also one of seven New Jersey hospitals that have trauma centers with the second-highest level of certification, Michael said. Three hospitals have the highest level.

Sonia argues that by closing off the street Newport residents are denied parking for a visit to the Korean War Memorial and Liberty State Park. This makes no sense. It is a 10 minute walk from Newport to the memorial. The walk is along the water, and a very pleasant stroll. The walk from the Korean War Memorial to LSP is about 15 minutes, and is a circuitous route, thru the Sandbar parking lot, the grimy recycling plant driveway, and over the foot bridge into the park. Her motives are transparent.

And I like this gem:

The road on Washington Street is asphalt, and perfect for parking.

I was by that way yesterday, and the area that she speaks of was filled with kids, toddlers and their parents enjoying the open space. The asphalt road is a perfect place for bikes with training wheels.

That part by the memorial is part of LSP, even though there is no connection to the rest of the park, so I guess there is a point there, but I didn't see it.
