It's just another facet of grooming. some women are wash n' go, others pay more attention to detail. I work a lot with my hands, and after a couple of weeks they can look pretty wrecked. Having a pro file, trim and buff my nails and cuticles is a necessary indulgence. As long as that pro is using clean tools.

Do women get manicures to show each other? I have always wondered because whenever my girlfriend gets one and asks me if I like it, I wonder to myself, "Why do I care whether your finger nails are pink, red, or whatever color?" and then proceed to say, "They look amazing"
Is it like guys and bench pressing? Cause I know the difference in benching 180 versus 225 matters extremely little to women but matters a lot to other guys. Or guys and cars? Am I wrong?

Floris (on the corner of Greene and Grand) is wonderfully clean. Basic manicure is $12 PLUS they give you a five minute chair massage.
Best value in downtown.

It's tough with the cheap places...usually you sacrifice cleanliness, unfortunately. I recently bought my own tools to bring. Target sells a little kit with everything in it for about $8.
There is a new place opening on Newark Ave near Monmouth St. Maybe they will be better.

Can anyone recommend the CLEANEST place to get a manicure downtown?
I used to love Zion, but it seems they've fallen out of the habit of sterilizing their equipment. Sat down for a manicure this afternoon, and the woman picked up the tools she'd just used on the last customer, and reached for my hand. I pulled back in horror, pointed towards the empty sterilizer behind her, and asked for "clean tools." The manicurist then put the used tools into a cup of the blue stuff, reached under her table, brought out different tools, gave them a quick dip, and was once again ready for action. I walked out. So if anyone can recommend a mani/pedi place that has a sterilizer that they actually use on a regular basis, I'd really appreciate it.

I think the cheapest I've seen is Joy Nails, at $8 or $9...plus they throw in a short shoulder massage.
Zion is similar, maybe $1 or so more, and seems cleaner. They're nice at both places.
