I went through a process when I obtained flood insurance for my home, but I have no idea what this certification is that you're asking about. I simply went to a city office (the name escapes me, but I'm sure a call to the city clerk would get it) and asked what flood zone my property was in. The person there told me the I was in the 500 year flood plain ( called Zone B). I asked for a letter from them stating that fact and sent it to my insurance company & mortgage company. This little bit of leg work saved me more than $1000 per year in insurance premiums.
I think some insurance companies ask for an elevation survey which can cost around $500. Perhaps they (or a local realtor) could point you in the right direction if this is what you need.

I had a client who recently went through something similar.
you can send me a PM. The story is too long to type. A short phone convo would do.

No, we still haven't done this! The surveyor I wanted to use was busy at the time and we never called him back. We're paying $1,000+ for flood insurance premiums in the meantime. I did hear that someone on Bright street (closer to me) was successful in eventually getting a map amendment and eliminating the requirement for flood insurance entirely.
We may get to it this year ... if you find any useful information, let me know, and i'll do the same :)

Hi, we are in the same situation in Hamilton Park, did you ever get an elevation certificate or hear back from anyone on the list?
Thanks! Patty

Our building is pre-firm and has no elevation certificate. I'm in the process of obtaining flood insurance required by the bank, and if the Elevation difference is anywhere from 0-4 (not sure what those numbers are measuring), the premium would reduce drastically. If it is -1, it would more than double.
1. Has anyone obtained an elevation certificate in downtown JC (even better, in Van Vorst area)? If yes, could you tell me what it showed? 2. Any recommendations on where to go to obtain one? 3. Approx. cost? Thanks!
