I'm pretty sure Hoboken Wireless does this. They're on Washington & 3rd St.

They inconvenienced you, now it's your turn. Park them in and leave a note that they're in your space that you pay for, and you'll be back in an hour.

Re: Elevation certificate

I went through a process when I obtained flood insurance for my home, but I have no idea what this certification is that you're asking about. I simply went to a city office (the name escapes me, but I'm sure a call to the city clerk would get it) and asked what flood zone my property was in. The person there told me the I was in the 500 year flood plain ( called Zone B). I asked for a letter from them stating that fact and sent it to my insurance company & mortgage company. This little bit of leg work saved me more than $1000 per year in insurance premiums.

I think some insurance companies ask for an elevation survey which can cost around $500. Perhaps they (or a local realtor) could point you in the right direction if this is what you need.

I ate at Suez canal a while back, had the fried shrimp and calamari in red sauce. This restaurant is filthy! I've eaten in more than a few dives but this was the worst I've ever seen. The walls were covered with grime and the floor hadn't been swept in 6 months. Doesn't suprise me at all to hear about health violations. I actually assumed it while I was eating there.

But the food was excellent. I'd go back for take out.

Re: Flooding advice?

I rented a ground floor apartment in the past near there (Grand and Barrow) without any flooding issues. However, using common sense when viewing the apartment will help.

1. Does the apartment smell like mildew?

2. If there isn't a fresh coat of paint, can you see water lines on the walls? You can see these on both concrete and drywall.

3. If there is a fresh coat of paint and the walls are drywall, do the bottom portions of the walls seem warped? That would be due to water damage.

After the rain we had this summer, I would be suspicious if I saw fresh paint and a new carpet if the rest of the apartment wasn't updated as well.

Jersey City basements flood on a block by block basis. For example, my basement now has never flooded in the 5 years I've been here. There are also no signs that it had every flooded. However, my neighbors across the street complain that they flood every time theres a light rain.

I don't know of anyone in downtown, but I do know a guy near the JC/Bayonne border. The address is 2 Garfield Ave, it's the cell phone store inside the CH Martin. Store name is Page One electronics.

Re: PARKING: Jersey City might refund drivers for 'illegal booting'

Most importantly... where do I sign up to get my $110 refund? With all the BS I've put up with from the JCPA (ie meters that don't work, missing signs, etc) you better believe I'll apply for it.

For the record, as I've come to understand the booting policy of the past few years, it's been mostly out of towners who've gotten boots on first offenses. Cars with JC parking stickers recieve the 3 ticket boot. I doubt most out of towners will apply for the refund or even know about it.

Re: Best pizza in JC????

I have yet to find truely great pizza in JC, but I tried Singhas pizza in JSQ last week and it was surprisingly good. It was more a deep dish style pizza than NY style for those who are picky, and the toppings were excellent. I can honestly say that it was the best spinach pizza I ever had, but more importantly the pepperoni was good too. As an added bonus, it was cheap and they deliver downtown.

I haven't had HPP since the ownership changed, but I remember that it was good for eat in and lousy if delivered. And the Mexican pizza was actually spicy.

I had the same problem with my basement when I first moved in, got a dehumidifier from Sears ($99 I think) and it's been extremely effective. The basement (+- 400 sqft) is completely dry and there isn't a big difference in the electric bill. I know this isn't the solution you're looking for but it worked great for me.

Re: Cafe Saigon / best vietnamese

I agree, Saigon Cafe is excellent. I've been eating there for years and have never had a bad meal. The service is always good and the prices are reasonable. I recommend the summer rolls appetizer, beef vermacelli, salmon curry & peppercorn squid meals. Plus I love the vietnamese beer they have. I'm continually suprised & dissapointed that this place always looks empty.

I ate at Nha Trang once a while back and didn't like it, the food reminded me of bad Chinese takeout. Perhaps I caught them on a bad night, I've heard good things from other people. But why go back when there's an excellent place basically across the street?

Re: Ron Paul Hosts Major Fundraiser in NJ for Murray Sabrin

You would actually donate money to this guy?

From the Daily Record
http://www.northjersey.com/politics/S ... paign_cash_on_Derby_.html

Senate candidate from N.J. bet campaign cash on Derby
Sunday, May 3 2998

U.S. Senate hopeful Murray Sabrin burned through $1,050 of his campaign cash Saturday on a Kentucky Derby long-shot.

Sabrin, a Ramapo College professor, announced the bet during a press conference Friday in Atlantic City. Sabrin?s wager, which is apparently legal under federal elections laws, aimed to highlight his promise to legalize sports betting at casinos.

Sabrin himself is a long shot to win the Republican nomination for the Senate in the June primary. He is running a distant third, according to a recent poll. "Cowboy Cal may have finished in ninth, but Murray Sabrin will finish first on June 3," said George Ajjan, a spokesman for Sabrin.

Ajjan said that he heard odds on the horse had reached 41-to-1 when Sabrin placed his bet at Monmouth Park. At those odds, a win by Cowboy Cal would have raised more than $40,000 for the campaign.
