Posted this below to the Chromium thread a while ago, I'm still curius if anybody has more info on this aspect of the area. I'm not really worried about my kids going to camp there, signing them up tomorrow, but I would be worried if I was part of the staff working there year in year out, kicking up the dust, inhaling it etc.

"As I was considering signing my kids up for Camp Liberty this summer, I also wanted to check the area in the light of the above, and it seems to me that Cabana Club, i.e. Camp Liberty, i.e. Hudson Chromate Site 178 are one and the same.

I used the NJ-GEOweb http://www.nj.gov/dep/gis/geowebsplash.htm
and searched for Chromium sites.

Am I right that this is where the Camp is located and if so, is this news at all or a well-known fact? Does anybody know more about what the RI-status of this site means (the GeoWeb also says Surface Soil Sampling result in 1992 was 100 ppm, but 100 ppm of what? Hexavalent Chromium or "just" plain old Chromium?), and, since it says responsible party is Allied Signal could that make it part of the Honeywell lawsuit even if the site is Public Land? "

Thank you guys for these posts, it inspired me to start a collection of pictures for my kids, so they can see what a few decades can bring in terms of change to a city. Wonder what they will be looking at 20-30-40 years from now?!

Hey, neverleft, that is a great trove of old JC info you just posted.

Thanks for that.

Maybe Webmaster could set up a sticky thread where all such valuable info could be deposited?

Another trove of old JC pictures was posted on JClist recently:

Also has some shots of Roosevelt Stadium and it?s Marina (1972) Too bad the stadium couldn?t have been saved! Now it's the SH condo complex.

What's the history of the South end of Liberty State Park?

Specifically, where Camp Liberty is held there are faded shuffleboard courts and some odd low buildings. Someone told me that it is the remains of a holiday casino complex that once stood there.
