Damn this bugs me now it's going to be overflowing again.

I don't know who did this or I would have told you here. The boxes may have come from a business as they were smaller fruit and food containers. There were also 2 large household sized garbage bags stuffed in there. The JCIA said they would send out an inspector.

Living on a corner property illegal dumping occurs from time to time. A while back it was a 50 pound bag of cement then recently a tire was dumped the day before my garbage day pick up, and when the truck came it did not take the tire. I called the JCIA (201) 432-4645 told them about the tire and the cement they said they don't normally take tires but leave the tire and put the cement next to it, they gladly came and picked up the illegaly dumped items. Usually you should call the sub-contracted collection company Waste Management but I just call the JCIA the operator will connect you. I guess the City of Jersey City has to give you something back for you hard earned dollars that go towards paying property taxes. Plus the city looks better which attracts more revenue.

Does anyone remember the Native American with the tear running down his cheek as he finds garbage being dumped on the highway & in rivers?
It was a PSA played on Saturday morning TV, so kids were its audience (of course this may have been before many here on JClist were born).
Educate the kids and their parents will be shamed into following.

Hey, jcnight, it was certainly meant with TLC

We should have recycling receptacles right next to trash cans on our streets (if the city will allow us to have trash cans).

I think we need to start a city campaign about littering.

I agree, it's crazy. Just imagine how bad it will be once the park actually opens! The sooner something can get done the better.

Funny thing about that is: Some people grab their mail on their way out the door and read it while walking their dog(s). The crap advertising goes in the trash with the dog shit. How unfair is that??? I have done this in the past a few times. Not that it's alot, a few pieces of paper, but still it has an adress on it and I am putting it where it belongs in the trash!

Hopefully there is a piece of mail or something to track them down. But that means a city worker getting his/her hands dirty.

If you have seen this resident throw household trash in public trash receptacles, and you know his address, you should go ahead and call JCIA. This is reason enough for them to "stake" it out and give him a summons. It would be a real boost to my moral if someone in this city finally has to pay for behaving badly. I would cheer you!

I know the guy you speak of. My old neighbor on 8th. throws his garbage in the can at the corner of McWilliams too. I used to tell him it was a bad idea but he claimed it was to prevent identity theft (WTF?). It was usually a small shop-rite sized plastic bag. I wanted to keep some harmony in the building but since then I have moved down the street. Turns out that guy is now in charge of all the trash and recycling in that building (249 8th.St). I fear he is now throwing everything from that building into the public cans. If you see this happen Please report him to the JCIA. It's amazing how lazy people can be where they don't wanna drag their own trash-cans to the curb or sort the recycling. And like the dog crap problem it's all about PEOPLE being scumbags.

Maybe the city just needs to collect the trash from the cans more often and have more cans in the rest of the city.

If I live to be a thousand years old, I will never understand how people walk their garbage down the street to put it into a can on the corner when they have their own cans. I know sometimes they are getting rid of things they can't put out in their own trash, but a lot of times it's just regular everyday household trash. The worst part about it is that the city then removes the street trash cans, as though the cans are the problem and not the idiots who use them improperly. AAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

It appears that more and more residents are using the garbage cans around Hamilton Park to dump their household trash. The cans around the park seem to fill up to over-flowing on a daily basis. Today someone dumped a bunch of large boxes near the can at Jersey and 8th. I also noticed a bunch of household trash and recycling dumped in and around the can at 8th and McWilliams. I would urge all residents to report any homeowners or tenants or Cleaning services who are doing this to the JCIA at 201-432-4645 Ext. 600, M-Fri 9am-4pm. (Remember, Gerry McCann promised to increase summonses as a JCIA Inspector)! Residents should use their own garbage cans for disposal of trash and recycling. Leaving the cans over-flowing attracts vermin and generally makes the neighborhood look like CRAP. Please note rule E below. BTW? I see you, I report you!!

? 287-3. - Storage of refuse.

A.
No person may place refuse on any street, sidewalk, park or other public place except in city litter receptacles or in plastic bags or refuse containers for collection in accordance with the provisions of this article.
B.
No person may place, deposit or accumulate refuse upon or within any private property except in plastic bags or refuse containers in accordance with that provision of this article.
C.
No person may deposit refuse in a stream, brook or any other body of water.
D.
It shall be the duty of owners of real property to prevent the accumulation of refuse upon the sidewalks adjacent to their property.
E.
No person may place household refuse, construction or demolition refuse or street dirt into city litter receptacles.
F.
It shall be the duty of owners of vacant real property to maintain such property free of refuse, brush, weeds, tree stumps and other noxious plants.
G.
No owner of real property may permit the growth of brush, weeds or other noxious plants to a height of six inches or more upon or within his or her property or upon the sidewalk adjacent to his or her property.
H.
No owner of real property may permit the storage in areas zoned residential of any bulky household items such as appliances, furniture or mattresses, except in a fully enclosed structure.
