Thanks for feedback thus far :)
It's a backyard. Basically dirt covered by bricks. The people next door have the same problem and had gravel filled in at least three times in last couple of years. Obviously we need something more permanent to fix this problem. We live in connected row houses so the only thing separating our yards is a wooden fence on each side. Am worried that if we fix our backyard it will still sink again in future unless our neighbors have their area fixed as well :(

Ok let me understand this...is this a deck like patio? what are we talking about here? is it off the ground?
What holds it up? or am I misunderstanding .....is it a brick walkway in your back yard? If its Above ground you need footings (concrete base) to hold up weight. This is what I was referring to....... Regardless when something is sinking its because there is something underneath that is not capable of holding it up. That is common sense.

footings? for a patio? I'm sorry, but a patio doesn't need footings. Ask some contractor who knows what they are doing. I agree with Shadow, wait first until it dries and them you can do what he suggests. Another alternative, it is to build a good concrete slab. but I doubt you need to do such a job for a patio.

you forgot the most important thing....footings. If its sinking you probably don't have footings or properly poured footings.
Letting it dry or putting bricks are temp fixes without knowing the reason it sank. A patio has to be able to hold live and dead load...but hey what do I know? if you need someone...pm me.....i've had 2 patios done for me.

It has to dry up before any corrective work is done. Once settled and dry the bricks come up, new gravel/sand/stone dust put down and compacted properly. Then a french drain should be installed and the bricks re-laid. Should be good to go.

After the recent flooding, my brick backyard/patio has started to sink. I need a contractor who can put it back together and hopefully prevent this from happening again :)
