I'm active mostly in New York and Hoboken. Once in a great while I paint here in town but I don't seam to ever sell those paintings thus I'm in the 'Boke or Manhattan.

BB,

No worries. I just wanted to inform you that my illuminated works have no relevance to street art. Hardly even inspired by it although I also do street art of a very diff medium.

As for Indiviual exhibitions vs collective efforts...

My work in the BX is actually permanently custom designed into the interior of that venue. There are 10 pieces behind the bar 6pole pieces and 2 inbedded in the wall at the entrance.
I am also workin on pieces for a venue in Brooklyn. Bronx, Brooklyn & Miami as well as JC.

Thanx for your concern on the state of my career though. Helps me sleep better knowing there's someone out there that cares.

Cheers
JF

This weekend's events should give you some more names for your
map, bring a pen and paper.

Yes. Subjective. VERY MUCH SO.

I do know many artists on the charts, friend with some.

Some show more outside of JC, like Brendan Carroll, Doris Cacoilo, Amanda Thackray, Hiroshi Kumagai, Doze Green, etc etc.....

Some show ONLY in JC.

I can't cover all underground artists in JC, as most of JC artists are.
Thus I posted here to gather more info.

I was unaware of Dana Gannon. But Mr. Carlson suggested her and after a quick research, I found out that she is a solid sculptor and having a solo show at the 58 Gallery (hence Blue arrow).

Please do let me know more about other artists in JC.

Subjective is a good word.

Look, there are some artists who are visible here who make and show their work mainly in Jersey City. But most people who make art on a consistent basis don't show in only one place.

I would say that most of the visual artists on your map show their art OUTSIDE of Jersey City, maybe more often than they show it IN Jersey City. You don't know about it, because you're only looking here.

It's almost like this map is just for you and your friends. You've got a bubble here that's skewed to your perceptions only and yet trying to be concrete. (It's kind of like an art piece about which artists you like, almost.)

If you're going to map Jersey City artists because they live and work here, go ahead. But you might re-think leaving people out because they get around. As you get more information, you'd have to eliminate a lot of people.

Arrows mean well-biased views on the artists.
Like, Activity frequency, Productivity, Work out side of JC, ETC.

They are EXTREMELY BIASED, MY (and my friends') VIEWS.

Blue Arrow means you are active, very productive, doing good works out side of JC, Progression of works. etc.
Green Arrow means the same as blue but more moderate steady progression.
Black Arrow means that they are doing OK. Although they are active, not much new things coming out of them.
Red Arrows means that I am worried about their career.

Some artists are more active as a part of their own groups and collectives. But I am focusing more on individual artists.

Mr. Fathom.
Please accept my apology if you feel that your position in the chart is not justified. I do notice that you frequent Miami (and your involvement with Bronx club). But as I mentioned above, I focus more on individual activities.

DowntownSteve28,
I would like to see your works. You might be worthy of being a new addition to the yahoos.

Best regards,

BB

Thank you for making this map. I wish I still did art outside of photography so I could be marginalized and classified with all these other yahoos.

Ron English still has a home in JC, but I'm pretty sure he lives upstate NY now.

At least that's what somebody mentioned to me earlier this week.

Hey, I would also include John Ruddy, Joe Russo and Robert Piersanti.
Russo=street
Ruddy=Academic/High
Piersanti= Pop

Regarding ROcksoup Studios. We throw parties here in JC b/c thats all JC wants. They have gallery shows all the time but if they come all the way out to our loft they EXPECT a party.
However we participate in Studio Tour Exhibitions like the one at CANCO and we've taken JC artists to Miami during Art Basel for the last 3 yrs.

Question regarding my standing on the map--somewhere between street and pop? Are you talking about my street art or my Illuminated paintings? My Illuminated paintings are more POP leaning towards academic. Whereas my Street art is just that.

Ideally, when you click on the names, it would bring them to their web-sites.

Hiroshi should be over towards the Academic/Pop side, not street art.

As for Rocksoup, I haven't seen them doing nothing but a party, so I omitted them respectfully.

Fish lady is in more of Craft category, one can argue about a difference between craft and art, but IMHO, painting on toilet seat is neither pop nor high art.

I didn't know Kaws is from JC. I like to map out artists who are active in JC right now.

I am not sure about Mary Benson Gallery. I don't know if they are doing anything lately.

Any more suggestions?

My weekend project to map out Art organizations and Artists in Jersey City.
I am sure I missed many of notable ones.
Let me know where and who to add.
