The murder total is almost a non issue. How many of these murders were actually random murders and not premeditated? I'm guessing not many. People involved in that lifestyle are gonna kill each other. The problem is when they affect people outside that lifestyle.
The real numbers that should be looked at are the violent crimes numbers. See how much that has gone up in Jersey City. Those numbers on violent crime and thefts can be controlled by active policework and not this reactive police department that we have. One that cannot react and show up to crime scenes on time.

Sobering numbers, by any measurement...
> 90% (24/26) of all county muders have taken place in JC > On track to dwarf last year's tally (if this rate continues unchanged, JC is likely to top 34 murders for the year) And before someone questions my 34 murders estimate, I came up with that number by dividing the total amount of murders so far (24) by the amount of days so far this year (257) and then extrapolated based on that result (i.e. (24/257) * 365). Really scary. I always avoid getting involved in the political sniping of JCList, but this is beyond that. Team Healy ran on a "record" of lowered crime and enhanced safety/security. What a joke!

Near '08 murder total
Wednesday, September 16, 2009 With Monday night's shooting death of 21-year-old Aaron Ballon, the number of killings in Jersey City so far this year has surpassed the city total for 2007 and is just three below last year's total. Since Jan. 1, 24 people have been killed in Jersey City, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said. In 2007, there were 22 murders in the city and last year there were 27, DeFazio said. Countywide, there have been 26 murders so far this year, compared with a total of 36 last year and 28 in 2007. MICHAELANGELO CONTE
