I was just driving on Marin and saw three news vans, expect to see this story on the 5 or 6 o'clock news. One of them is ABC.

To me the truck looks like a Avalanche maybe with a toolbox in the bed & with the chrome step rails & chrome rims.

OK, now I want to know how long the tapes are kept for, whether a person can request access to the tapes or that the police review them at a given time, and where these cameras are.

This is not the first crime at this intersection, and it's the first I've heard of video. It isn't unusual in Jersey City to be told "sorry, we don't have the tape from that camera". (It seems to me that every time a criminal escapes because a tape was "lost", someone should get in -some- kind of trouble for that).

I wonder if private citizens could fund the installation of high-quality cameras in trouble spots, and make the data public so that anyone could use it as evidence when a crime occurs.

I've got $100 that says, if they catch the driver, he's got a suspended license and no insurance.

The truck is heading south, looks to be speeding and doesn't signal the lane change. You can also see that the victim had the WALK signal and the driver is running the red-light. Looks to be a contractor's vehicle. Can't the JCPD get a plate number off this video? The sad thing is that this kind of reckless driving happens constantly in all parts of Jersey City everyday. Time for the cops to step up enforcement.

if you watch the other video on nj.com near the bottom of the page you can see he blew or just about blew the 6th street light by the mall too.

Afrter viewing the video several times it appears the black pickup was travelling south on Marin, not north, and Mr.Torres who was heading to the Mall is on the NW corner of 6th & Marin walking east.

That's correct, the truck was heading south.

My girlfriend and I were close to the intersection when this happened and cannot describe our emotions toward the coward behind the wheel. I will never forget the look on the faces of his wife and those with her when they arrived at the scene. Our thoughts are with them.

Very chilling story and video:

Here's hoping the driver is caught and the pedestrian recovers.
