Every vote counts and as murican wrote if everyone comes out and votes their choice for the best candidate then the outcome is uncertain. I believe it is to the incumbents advantage, not just here but anywhere, if voters have a "what's the use" attitude. I think the incumbent would often be able to get out his or her base of support to vote. I could imagine that any candidate publicizing how he or she will win by a wide margin may be useful in causing apathy or a "what's the use" attitude in the minds of some of the opposition voters.

What I found distrubing were the number of city hall employees who packed the placed clapping for the mayor.

Agreed about the reliance on the notebook and tactless looking at his cell phone. More disturbing/telling, though, were the number of times Healy would say, "I disagree with that..." when it was a question provided by the moderator based on comments from the community (eg, not feeling safe).

Dear Mayor Healy,
Your question:
Your answer:
Victims are hoping campaign contributions won't cloud your judgement when deciding the livelihood of "your people".

Today's PolitickerNJ.com contradicts Mayor Healy's assertion at Thursday night's mayoral debate:
Jersey City fundraising race is not even close by Matt Friedman, PolitickerNJ.com Reporter Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy has raised 10 times more money than his closest opponent, according the latest filings with the State Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC). Healy?s campaign has raised a total of almost $3.1 million and has spent just shy of $2.3 million for his reelection in this city of 240,000, along with another $443,000 in donations to other campaigns and local non-profits. Of the total raised, $620,000 was left over from Healy?s previous campaign, while $2.49 million was taken in during the current cycle.

If everyone comes out to vote and votes for the best person, who is to say that the outcome may not be as predicted!

What disturbed me the most was Healy's smug statement that contrary to Smith's (and Manzo's?) assertion , he did not have a $3 million war chest, he only had $1 million!

Mayoral debate last night

Being a newcomer in Jersey City I felt compelled to learn about the Mayoral candidates, so I went to the debate last night. After watched and listening to all the candidates, I am now going to support Dan Levin for Mayor. He is the only person last night o offer comprehensive ideas to move Jersey City forward, the rest of the candidates just offered the usual rhetoric. Even more disturbing for me was that out current Mayor has to read directly from a notebook when he spoke. I found this to be very insulting, you would think that somebody who has been the Chief Executive Officer of a city for over 4 years would know enough about the city he runs to be able to speak off the top of his head. Furthermore when he was not reading from his notebook, he was looking at his cell phone. Was somebody sending him information via text messages or was he looking at the time to make sure he does not miss last call? Jersey City needs a Mayor who will not need a notebook to tell people why he should be Mayor.

A story about the debate should air on NJN News Friday.
http://www.njn.net/newspublicaffairs The full debate, edited into segments, should appear on this site next week.
