Wow, I am not sure what to make of that statement.

1. CIS agents are not "jersey city officials"; they are US Government agents enforcing federal immigration laws.

2. Are you advocating deporting US citizens who are also criminals? And if so, to which country? Please tell.

Jerseymom - I don't know if they took anyone else but the definitely took 2 workers from the corner store/deli. They didn't fine the owner and they told the owner that no one called about their store specifically, but they were searching the area. According to witnesses, they were headed to other businesses yesterday, but I don't know if they took anyone else.

The two guys are nice guys just trying to earn a living. Maybe jersey city officials should concentrate more on the real legal residents/citizens who are selling drugs downtown, robbing people on the street, robbing businesses, or beating up innocent people. There are a lot of those worthless people who although maybe citizens, should be the ones kicked out.

Wow, this thread seems tailor-made for whipping up some hysteria.

I wonder if anyone with strong, polarizing opinions on immigration will say something that rubs someone the wrong way?

It's like the mischief night thread, only less juicy.

JerseyGirl - any update on this story? Was more than one business impacted by the raids? Thanks.

A friend of mine who happens to be a legal resident and works near the corner of Tonnele and the Blvd told me that the unmarked van wasn't "rounding" up immigrants but called for a specific case.

I'd think the CIS (Citizenship and Immigration Service, not INS) need a probable cause to raid a business.

But it is certainly within their rights.

BTW - if the economy continues its downward spiral, legal residents and citizens will be grateful to have the jobs these illegals now hold.

The public pressure to deport illegals will be unbelievable.

Absolutely. And then, as soon as things swing upward a little and they've got a little disposable cash again, they're going to want them all back to do their fast free deliveries, etc.
