Federal grant for area cops
Jersey Journal Monday, September 08, 2008 Jersey City and Union City police have received a $158,000 federal grant. "This grant will provide welcome assistance in crime prevention to the Union City and Jersey City police departments," said U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, who helped secure the grant. The grant from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program is given by the Department of Justice. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office is administering it. Jersey City will use the money for foot and vehicle patrols in city hot spots, while Union City will use the funds to continue uniform patrols on weekends and evening hours, said Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio.
