Dear pinkowitz, You have to chose an address BELOW Erie Street, That is precisely the site I used to check. I believe we were E-20 before. (Our district includes the Roosevelt, Lincoln buildings, Park Hamilton and some of the houses on Manila and 9th Street. The results using the site you mentioned are Polling Place: 11/06/2012--GENERAL ELECTION HOLLAND GARDEN APARTMENTS, 237 16TH ST JERSEY CITY, NJ 07310 and Municipality: JERSEY CITY Municipality: JERSEY CITY Ward : 05 District: 05 Congressional: 08 Congressional: 08 Legislative: 31 Freeholder: 3 Regional School: School: 400.060 Fire: Our district was changed after the general redistricting following the census in 2010.

That's what it says on the card I got from the Board of Elections, and what it says when I use the polling place locator on the site. Ward E- District 5

You sure you mean E5? 5 has always voted at PS 3 on Bright street and encompasses area around VVP.

Can't believe it!- When I checked earlier a few weeks ago, E-5 was supposed to vote at the Cordero School, around the corner. Now our polling place has been changed AGAIN back to Holland Gardens.
Talk about fighting for your vote-- nothing like crossing two lanes of Holland Tunnel traffic to get to your polling station! This is ridiculous! Thanks fellow jclisters for allowing this rant.

I should have gotten up "early" and walked with Murican when the crossing guards were out. I thought I was going to get hit twice by vehicles.
Everyone is really friendly at the polling station, much friendlier than my old polling place, but getting there can be a pain.

Thank you Vigilante for your calm and sensible response.
Could everyone just read the older posts, and you will see that Steve Fulop has been involved and has been most helpful. These changes are not mandated by Jersey city , but by someone working for the state in Trenton. They just change the lines of the map without knowing the local realities. Eventually we hope, we will be changed back. I have voted there many times since they changed the polling place, I am still walking and talking and alive. Now, is anyone interested in meeting to walk over to vote?????

"Where is the public outcry? All I've seen are some posts on a message board.
Never in my life have I seen people forced to leave their neighborhood and put their life in danger in order to vote." Yes, where is Steve Fulop on this issue. The bottom line is that this polling place should be moved out of Holland Gardens to an alternate site. It's not fair to the residents of 700 Grove or any of the other buildings to force them to take their lives into their own hands to vote.

Although I'm still able to vote in a safe place, this is just about the most corrupt thing that has ever happened in Jersey City.
Why hasn't anyone contacted the media? To be forced to cross multiple dangerous roads is bad enough. Anyone who votes after work will be voting in darkness. The crack dealers are out in full force by then. There are gun battles in broad daylight over there. This is an obviously deliberate attempt to scare people away from voting. Anyone who has been over by Holland Gardens knows how dangerous it is. Anyone who reads the news knows how dangerous it is. Anyone who has tried to cross those roads on foot knows how dangerous that is. Where is the public outcry? All I've seen are some posts on a message board. Never in my life have I seen people forced to leave their neighborhood and put their life in danger in order to vote.

Thank goodness I don't live in one of those buildings. Somebody should call Steve Fulop and ask him what steps are being taken by JCPD to add extra security on behalf of voters in Holland Gardens.

For those of us voting in person at Holland Gardens on Tuesday, I would be interested in taking part in a series of election walks.
I plan to vote at 8am. If anyone else is interested, we can meet at the corner of Erie and Tenth and walk together to the polling place. If others are voting at different times say 7am , 6pm, could you post here so that we can organize groups? Remember to bring your picture id !

You can find your polling place here:
https://voter.njsvrs.com/PublicAccess/ ... Place/PollPlaceSearch.jsp And it will be printed on your sample ballot. So I talked to someone at the county level. He said they are well aware of the situation and have been trying to move it back, but someone on the state level won't do it. They are waiting for the 2010 census to come out. Aat that point they will probably re-district us back to this side of the tunnel because of the new buildings on the North side of the tunnel. He recommended getting an absentee ballot.

How do you find out where your polling place is? I got my voter registration/ID card in the mail a couple weeks ago but it has no mention of where I should go to vote. It says I'm in Ward 5, District 16.

Well then they should be voting at Holland Gardens and we should be moved back to Unico.
I may try calling that number in the Newport voices thread.

So it looks like we STILL have not been changed back to Unico Towers.
Is 700 Grove Street in Jersey City or Hoboken? I have been writing and complaining about being re-districted since last year and nothing has come of it. This is also a reminder for those in this area who haven't voted since the 2004 election of the move.

ok, I will see what can be done to get this changed back however, this is a function at the board of elections not the municipal government.
Some of the locations in the city were changed due to very poor voter turnout and lack of handicap access however, I certainly agree that this makes no sense. I will bring it up tonight at the council meeting. Steve

Are there a bunch of Republicans or Fulop voters in the Roosevelt or Lincoln buildings? Otherwise, it's sort of hilarious to think the Board of Elections making Newport people vote across from the Salvation Army. Totally aside from all of the unmentionable third-rail issues of race and class, it seems really mean to make voters in a city like Jersey City cross major highways to vote. People really ought to be able to walk to their polling places without crossing a 24-lane highway.

Yes, today is a state legislative race. You have the opportunity to go to the polls and not vote for Sandy Cunningham or vote for her.

Is today an election day?
I haven't received a sample ballot. I searched for my voting location online and Holland Gardens still comes up. When can we get moved back to 500 Grove (manilla)? It was never crowded, I could walk from my place and be done in 5 minutes and on my way to work. I hope they get this fixed by next year's presidential election. It just doesn't make sense that I have 2 polling stations within a block of my home, but I have to trek over there.

There is a limit to the times that you can use an absentee ballot. To permanently use one, you will have to be permanently disabled or unable to get a polling station. (I asked the Board of Elections and that was their reply.)Quote:
