The "triange" on is city owned land. Since the land is not suitable for construction of a skyscraper, it presents a very rare opportunity to preserve a bit of open space - build a park - in the PAD area. There are at least two other locations that could house the transformers, so the triangle is not the only option.
The PAD folks should not let this opportunity slip away.

Yes, it's property of the Port Authority. There was always a long back and forth battle on who will pay for the moving of these live transformers. There is much more to all of this thread...I smell a hidden agenda from the original poster. I've heard many different things about the triangle including a large residential building. My conversation with someone at 30 Montgomery is: Yes, The powerhouse will move forward. Yes, there will be green space surrounding it. Yes, many people want the triangle for development. Yes, the PA will move the transformers. Someone has suggested the triangle but it was just talk. Nothing is set and people are throwing out all sorts of ideas......

Aren't the transformers Port Authority, not the city?

holy crap! i understand this isnt the richest city or anything, but do they really need to cut corners on everything? if they just thought 5 years ahead, theyd see that investing a little to that corner as a park now would be a lot better for the surrounding residential high rises that are soon to be right next to it, instead of some half-assed after thought for ugly transformers. they can bury it just like any other city would.

If this wasn't Jersey City I wouldn't even think this is a serious idea. But I don't put anything past this group. Is there a news article you read about this or a town meeting you heard this from?
Why don't they just restore the power plant to its working condition and get that thing spewing out sut again instead of having the hassle of moving those transformers?????

You folks are so negative. The transformers can be integrated into a children's playground, as a jungle gym. . . .

Yes, but if it accelerates the remediation of the powerhouse, perhaps its a decent compromise.

That is a horrible idea, however permanent is a relative term. Is it just a case of being too expensive to bury?

The triangle shaped piece of property next to the Powerhouse that was to become a small park or outdoor artist showcase is in danger of becoming the new home for the transformers that are in front of the powerhouse.
Those transformers were supposed to go underground but now Bob Antinecello from the JCRA wants to move them all onto that triangle piece.I wonder how the people in The Portofino are going to like that. How ugly is that going to look plus a bad place from a safety standpoint. There is no park space in that area and Bob Cotter had supported an outdoor Sculpture garden there. Call the Jcra and the Mayors office to let them know we are wise to them.
