Capers was out on $50,000 bail after being arrested twice in Jersey City this year, DeFazio said.

In January, he was charged with a weapons offense and on a separate occasion that month he was charged with drug possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, DeFazio said.

Drug buyer shot in head, cops say

A Jersey City man remains in critical condition after being shot in the head in Greenville Monday night after buying drugs, officials said.

Perry Capers, 20, of Lexington Avenue, was shot ON Stegman Street near Garfield Avenue before 10 p.m. and was rushed to the Jersey City Medical Center in critical condition, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio.

Medical Center officials said Capers remained in critical condition last night.

A 22-year-old man from Ocean Avenue was also shot during the incident. He was treated at the Medical Center for a gunshot wound to his leg and was released, DeFazio said.

The 22-year-old told police that he and Capers had purchased drugs in a nearby house and were walking away when gunfire erupted from the direction of the building, reports said.

DeFazio said homicide investigators from his office were notified because of the severity of Capers' wound, which he described as "life-threatening."

Five 9mm bullet casings were recovered at the scene, DeFazio said.

Capers was out on $50,000 bail after being arrested twice in Jersey City this year, DeFazio said.

In January, he was charged with a weapons offense and on a separate occasion that month he was charged with drug possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, DeFazio said.

DeFazio provided little information on the man shot in the leg, saying he is a witness to the shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office's Homicide Squad at (201) 915-1345.
