It sounds like a premise for a Portlandia skit. Like the Two Women, Two Shirts piece from last week's episode.

Also, I agree with the cakes in the window factor. Whenever I walk past Goehrig's in the Heights with my daughter, she wants to go in for a cookie after eyeing the goodies in the front display.

I know what you mean inside and out the place is brightly lit and shiny with a colorful array of cakes & cookies to choose from. Kind of like a Main St lure. I can't wait to try this cupcake place out the owner seems dedicated. It's just the hours are limited. I wonder how it compares to that other cupcake place on Grove ?

"We didn't want to look like a traditional bakery," she said. "We went with a boutique look. When you walk in, cakes aren't in your face. It's chic."
I guess I'm not chic. I like a place to look like a bakery. I want to be tempted by the cakes when I walk past. Let's face it-- I go to a bakery if their stuff tastes good, not if the atmosphere where I'm picking up the stuff is chic. And with the number of kids in the area, you kind of want a place that kids will drag their parents into. Read: Cakes in the window.
But I do hope she makes it. It's so hard for businesses around here--probably because we're all so judgmental and cynical.

The real question is: how good are these cupcakes? Is it all about the frosting or else?

Because the one on Grove Street always has really really long lines. Thank god we now have another cupcake boutique in the neighborhood.

"16 flavors of cupcakes to choose from. At any given time, there are at least four flavors on display for take-out."

So they're going to make their business work by having four types of cupcakes available at any given time? They'd better be REALLY good cupcakes.
