Also ate lunch here this afternoon. The chenaya soup was excellent for a cold day. Garlicy and thick. The owner said they are currently serving about 80% of the menus and most of the desserts right now and will have everything up and running within a couple of weeks.

It sounds like a premise for a Portlandia skit. Like the Two Women, Two Shirts piece from last week's episode.

Also, I agree with the cakes in the window factor. Whenever I walk past Goehrig's in the Heights with my daughter, she wants to go in for a cookie after eyeing the goodies in the front display.

I had one of the appraisers walk through my condo last Sunday. He basically counted the number of rooms and bedrooms and took a peek at the bathroom and kitchen. He also took a look out the front and back windows. The appraisal took about 3 minutes. No photos were taken.

And, yes, he used a pencil to fill out his form.

Awesome. Although the end of the world could happen after the festival ends. You never know!

Re: 3rd Quarter Property Tax Bills - question

I just called the tax office and was told that a reassessment of my property had kicked in this quarter. This has increased my assessment threefold and therefore my taxes reflect that increase. And the appeal season for this assessment is not until January so I can't do anything, except pay the bill, until then.

Same thing with my tax bill. 3Q municipal tax is ~350 and non-municipal is ~250. But I am being billed for a total of $1950!

A Copper Beech is also waaay more attractive than a Silver Maple. I'd cut down any Silver Maple, healthy or not, if it meant replacing them with Copper Beeches.

Statewide Granite on Kennedy Blvd.

Does anybody have any experience with Statewide Granite on Kennedy Blvd. in the Heights? We are doing a small kitchen remodel with a new granite countertop of only 13 square feet. Has anyone used them to do installation work? Are there other granite suppliers/fabricators/installers in the area we should consider?

Also, has anyone noticed that the comcast cable will sometimes turn the television into rainbow colors? At first I thought it was the television but the DVD, xBox and VGA streams were normal. Usually changing the channel will correct the color problems.

This has been happening to me recently. My wife and I thought the TV was going (an old CRT TV). But no, just Comcast. Might have to go to FIOS, especially now that they have the $150 rebate offer.

does anyone know what bus I can take from Summit and Bowers to either Exchange Place, Grove, or even Journal Square PATH stations? I work in SoHo and really don't want to have to go to Port Authority if I don't have to. Thanks

thanks for the info petey8 and Lindad! it turns out that the 82 and 83 buses run on summit (1/2 block from the condo) to exchange place and journal square path trains, so i guess we'll have to see how often they run. thanks for all the restaurant info. i'm sure there are some gems in the heights we'll have to check out

does anybody know anything about Bowers between Summit and Central? We're thinking about moving there, and are curious about what that neighborhood is like. We're also interested in finding out what buslines take you to the PATH or Port Authority and roughly how much they are. Thanks :)
