Not that I was there or know all the facts, but one thing I've learned from my Midwestern mother in law is that someone can appear quiet and calm and still be a bully and irrational.

Interesting ... I live on South Street and I witnessed a lady screaming and screaming this morning at a nice man from Housing. He kept politely asking her to please not scream at him so he could kindly explain the problems to her, but instead of listening to reason she just screamed louder and louder. I felt really bad for the man, because the lady was acting ridiculous, unnecessarily loud and unreasonable ... what an interesting coincidence ....

Edit... I missed the end of your post where you already talked to Ed Coleman. My bad.
I never really had a problem with those guys. I am surprised your meeting ended the way it did.

Sorry, but you need a lawyer who knows how to deal with those bullies. They have no qualms about issuing COMPLETELY illegal summonses. Check your PM.

I am assuming this is from Ed Coleman's office. Go down and talk to him. I had some violations a while back that I couldn't fix in the time allotted. I spoke with him and explained my situation. He had me put an extension request in writing and was granted an extension.
Bring copies of your permits and let him know the property is going under full renovation.

My Building on South Street is a Target for Complaints. What should I do?

Since we bought this building a year ago, we have been trying to fix it. We have a building permit and a Garbage disposal permit. It's a 3-family and we are living in two apartments renting one. What rights do we have from the Housing Department. They know we are fixing the building, yet someone is calling and reporting us for whatever violations, like painting the cornice. The housing department is issuing violations for paint. Do they do this to single family also? My building is not that bad and we spent a lot of money fixing the damages left by previous home owner. Why does the city give us violations for paint when we are fixing the whole building? Is there something we can do about this? It's almost putting the horse before the carriage. Why paint when we are still fixing? I tried to tell Edward Coleman and Mulcahy from the housing and it ended in a shout match because they refuse to listen to reason. What can we do about people reporting us and wasting our time because we already have a permit???? HELP???
