The DOT has started work around the edges of the Charlotte circle. They plan to "rearrange" the entire roadway and completely eliminate all traffic signals from Broadway north to Tonnele ave at County road. They also are going to tear down the dreaded Wittpen Bridge. (Rt. 7) and replace it. I'm not totally sure, but I think part of the plan is to eliminate that exit ramp, meaning you'll have to get off at the Broadway exit.....
I had the website showing all their diabolical plans but I can't seem to find it.
But I think I can safely say that your commuting nightmares have only begun.....
Not counting the transit tunnel they are building under the Hackensack river, which will destroy the last remaining piece of the Meadowlands left in Hudson County, completion should be in Sept, 2012.

Those bumps really suck. They just removed them though - thank God.

I relish thinking about what the plates do to those silly low profile tires, not to mention their expensive rims! I once had a tire on my old 1970 Nova ripped open by one of those in Manhattan.

I know where I got my flat tire the other day...
Everytime they remove the metal plates it doesn't look much better than before.

I had a similar experience right after passing through a plated area on the BQE 5 months ago. I wonder how many nails are generally left afterwards...

OK they're not *really* speedbumps but they may as well be. Anyone who drives off the Pulaski skyway towards the Holland (near the Tonnele exit) has experienced these and I'm pretty sure there were a set of similar "bumps" going in the other direction.
Bolted down metal sheets that must be at least 1+ inches raised from the rest of the road. And come in a sequence of 3 or 4.

Gives you a nice jostle when riding thru. I can only imagine what it must be for someone on a sedan/sports car any non-truck like vehicle. Ive seen drivers slam on brakes after hitting the first one which must cause a traffic hazard.

Why is that considered an acceptable condition to leave the road in for more than an ultra temporary span of time?

It must cause all kinds of damage in addition to being the aforementioned traffic hazard when an unprepared driver hits them.

Thank goodness I love a bumpy road.
