There are a few paid services worth looking at.

xfinity wifi - has great coverage in JC, and generally good enough for most purposes. 2 free 60 min sessions/month, plus reasonable rates for longer use - $8/day is damn good value imo compared to what you might spend in a coffee shop. Free if you have a buddy that trusts you with their comcast login. https://wifi.comcast.com/

Tethering plan from cellphone provider - next best choice imo. I can get a month's data tethering to my cellphone for $5-10 on t-mobile. I activate it when I need it, cancel it when I'm done.

Pay-as-you-go: yourkarma.com is one of the best for the road warrior. Data doesn't expire. Entry cost is high - but you can get creds letting other folks use your service.

Great suggestions. Keep them coming. Going to some of these places this weekend.

Even though I was one of the first people to go to starbucks, it quickly became crowded with no empty tables anymore. Same with mcdonalds, dunkin & subway.

Then after trying these 4 spots in less than hour, I went back home because it was raining heavily & I was soaked.

Hey everyone!

Can someone suggest a study spot with free wifi in Jersey City that will be open on Good Friday? All the JCPL libraries & school libraries are closed. I need to apply for internships as well as finish some essays for school.

Thanks,

NewinJC

One more recommendation, which may be surprising: Zeppelin Biergarten. Because of their cavernous space, you can usually find a quiet spot (try the back area) and there is AMPLE working space (their tables are wide, and long) and free wifi. I go there often and bring my iPad to read (or, my laptop to do work) and just buy a pint and find a quiet corner.

I'm not sure what time newinjc plans to study, but the Zeppelin Biergarten doesn't open until 4pm on weekdays.

Good point. They only open early (12 noon) on weekends.

I can vouch for Warehouse Cafe being welcoming to people writing and studying there. Be a good guest and buy some coffee, and maybe some food, and they will let you linger there. I have friends that spend hours there grading tests, reading, and writing. Wherever you end up going, just be mindful to not take up too much space, buy something from them (coffee, pastry, sandwich, anything) and don't be disruptive to others.

As for Starbucks, I see LOTS of people that study/work while there (the Grove Pointe location) but, as with most Starbucks, the ambiance is loud, so you may need to wear headphones to drown out the surrounding noise and be able to concentrate. Brewshot is good coffee and fairly quiet.
