Just to close this one out, Asif contacted me last weekend for assistance. The replacement PSU he'd purchased (a very good one) was for an ATX board with a 24-pin connector and all SATA drives so that wouldn't work. He needed an AT PSU with 20 pins and IDE drive cabling support. I had one in stock and had him up and running in under an hour. Charged him $65 total for parts and labor-

Asif, Having done this professionally for a long time and having probably installed 50 or so PSUs it's a simple job most of the time. See my post below. I would have charged you maybe $25 and had you fixed a week ago if you'd contacted me. Let me know if you want local and easy. Dozens of references here in DTJC if you're uncertain...

Sorry to say but i proved you wrong Brewster. I tried to do the install by myself but failed. I could not for the life of me take out the old psu unit. There were two screws that were sort partially blocked an I couldnt unscrew them. An to be honest if I did get it out ....the new corsair cx750 unit looked so confusing with all its wires...im not sure how I would have gotten it together.
I did though do an excellent job cleaning the case....so for my first time not ...to shabby. I called the pc squared guys but...their price point was 70.00 dollars for an hour or 100 dollars for a complete check . I found a few places in the city who would do it fo 30 to 40 dollars but dnt want to schelp to the city. Ill try to see if I can find a local place with reasonable rates. Yes, very mechanically inept

Seriously, no matter how mechanically inept you are, this is an easy job. You simply cannot connect stuff to the wrong place, it won't go. It's no harder than hooking up a multi component stereo, probably easier since you can't do it wrong.

I sent the PC CURED guys an email Wednesday. Wanted a quote on the cost of installing a new psu. I would provide the new unit. Haven't heard zip from them. It can't take that long to reply to an email.

I'd be happy to help. Been doing this for 35 years and the last 16 self-employed. Could give you dozens of local businesses and individuals as references.
Geek Squad is pretty awful and I've had people bring me their machines AFTER overpaying for a supposed fix there. Contact me at PCHelp@david.aldenmail.com if interested. I'm just off VVP-

Can anyone recommend a tech to troubleshoot a few problems on my laptop. I don't want to take it to Best Buy/Geek Squad. It's running glacially slow and the Windows suite has stopped working but I think it wouldn't take someone who knows very long. I just can't do it myself.
