So after Six months of Schundler bashing healy "crime is up,City is going in the wrong direction etc etc"they are going to put Schundlers wife on the ticket.Smacks of desperation.

Is Schundler so desperate to become relevant again that he will run his wife for a council seat. Its a long way from when he was on the cover of time magazine and was touted as a possible presidential candidate.

Political Insider: Without Fulop or (Lynn) Schundler, what's Healy to do Downtown?

by The Jersey Journal
Saturday January 31, 2009

Downtown Jersey City Councilman Steve Fulop apparently has them hopping in the Healy camp.

Jersey City's Downtown section, Ward E on the May ballot, is presenting quite a puzzler for Mayor Jerramiah Healy, today's Jersey Journal Political Insider reports.

If incumbent Steve Fulop isn't on the mayor's ticket, Healy would want someone who could beat him, right? But when former First Lady Lynn Schundler seemed like she'd be on the slate, Fulop reportedly threatened to sign on with the ticket headed by Lou Manzo.

"Yikes!" was apparently the response in Healy's camp and Schundler suddenly changed "her'' mind, the Insider reports.

Could Healy head an incomplete ticket just to avoid the fight?

Stay tuned. It's a long time till petitions have to be filed!

Who is running on the Healy ticket?
Saturday, January 31, 2009

R emember the epic "sandals" movie scene where all those rebels conquered by the Roman Empire's army each stood up and said, "I'm Spartacus." This is similar to my daydream about the upcoming Jersey City municipal election. One by one, many people step forward and in turn say, "I'm Healy's Downtown council candidate."

Mayor Jerramiah Healy, and other mayoral hopefuls, have been trying to get "independent" Ward E Councilman Steven Fulop to run with them. Fulop even appeared at Healy's announcement that he was seeking re-election. Was the administration trying to gauge crowd reaction to the councilman's presence when he was announced, or was Fulop just slumming?

While playing footsie with Fulop, Healy's people must have been annoyed with the councilman's indecision and also began negotiations with the wife of former Republican Mayor Bret Schundler, Lynn.

Suddenly, rather than facing a cream puff, the councilman saw a potential fight on his hands and the possibility of having, gasp, to spend money. Fulop's behind-the-curtain gray matter went berserk and threatened that the day Healy announces Schundler on his ticket, Fulop will announce his allegiance with ex-Assemblyman Louis Manzo, who is running for Healy's seat.

Next thing we knew was Lynn Schundler telling people that "she" changed her mind about running, after speaking to supporters.

Fulop would not directly address the Schundler issue. He only noted: "I can't pick who's going to run against me." His said he is seeking re-election as an independent "and trying to stay away from the middle of what may be a very negative race."

He warned that if the candidate who runs against him starts throwing bombs, then the councilman will direct his attacks at the top of whatever ticket is funding his opposition - whether Healy, Manzo or anyone else.

So who is running on the Healy ticket? Hard to believe the mayor will not put up any opposition. If there is no cream puff available, start looking for photos with both Healy and Fulop in them - cardboard cutouts don't count.

What can you take from all this? First you have to ask yourself a question: Just how bad were those Downtown poll numbers for Healy?

INSIDER NOTE: During the middle of the week, a little Healy shindig was held at the Astor Bar for some Jersey City Democratic committee people. The problem was that they couldn't hear the guest speakers very well. They were in bad need - of a public-address system.
