JERSEY CITY -- A 16-year-old shot himself in the leg early this morning after firing shots near a bar on West Side Avenue, a city official said.

At about 2:30 a.m., the Belmont Avenue teen was dropped off at Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health with a non life-threatening gunshot wound to his calf, city spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said.

Police investigating the shooting near Gautier Avenue determined the teen shot himself while firing shots, Morrill said. It is not clear who or what the teen was firing at.

Police in Jersey City are investigating a shooting that sent a man to the hospital overnight in the city.

Officials at Jersey City Medical Center contacted authorities when a male victim entered the hospital?s emergency department suffering injury from gunfire according to reports.

The victim who arrived at the hospital shortly before 3 a.m. suffering a gunshot wound to the ankle, told authorities that the incident occurred in the area of West Side Avenue and Kensington Avenue.

Police checked the area and located a crime scene.

The victim was destined by authorities for questioning.

The latest shooting is the 9th confirmed shooting in the city since Thursday night.

JERSEY CITY -- A 20-year-old man was shot in the leg in the area of Virginia Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive yesterday night, Jersey City police spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said.

The Arlington Avenue man was shot just before 11 p.m. on Friday and was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health to be treated for his non-life-threatening injury, she said.
