In Hong Kong, there's an app that tells you where the haunted houses and apartments are!

Fireworks? At 5 am?

Not too shy to talk

I think that maybe they are finally over, but does anyone have any info on the fireworks that were going off between about 4:50-5:15 this morning? They were being set off possibly on New York Avenue or Palisade Avenue, between Congress and North. They looked really pretty out the window, but five in the morning? What gives?

22X bus mystery
#3

Not too shy to talk

The 22x bus is a puzzle...it doesn't show up on any normal bus schedule that I'm aware of (mybusnow, the screen at the PATH station) and yet it sometimes appears magically on the corner of Palisade and Congress, and it's usually close to empty.
Does anyone know anything about this shy and mysterious bus? Is there indeed some kind of schedule of its comings and goings to be had?

Silt in Jersey City Heights water

Not too shy to talk

I just got back to town after a few days away and I know that this area had torrential rain today. My water pressure is low and there seems to be silt in the water. I can't find any information online. Anyone know what the deal is? Are we under a water boiling advisory, etc?

I was thinking the same thing, but I forgot to ask when I bought a bunch of plants there the other day. They definitely seemed to be humming along as usual. Let's hope they stay.

There was a lovely, grey and white very friendly, non-stray cat on my front porch on Webster between Congress and North tonight who bolted in my front door when I opened it. I have two other cats, so I can't open the basement door right now to take a picture of him/her. If anyone has any information about this cat please write back on this forum! Thank you.

So many of these issue are a distraction, a smokescreen to distract people from other, more dangerous things. Like today's wiretapping nonsense from Trump....a big, bright, shiny bauble designed to throw everyone off the stench of Russia and other various and sundry illegalities of the New Regime. Don't fall for it.

They always say to plant your peas on St. Patrick's Day...usually works for me. I think our last frost date is supposedly mid-April, although I second what one of the other responders said in that climate change may have wrecked havoc with the dates we have usually used.

Last night we had a package stolen off our front porch. We called the police today and they said a package had just been stolen tonight a block from here, and that package theft in this neighborhood is on the rise. The thieves follow the UPS and Fedex trucks.

S.O.S---our opinions may differ, but my hat is off to you for being so even handed in your comment. I think each side goes off the rails when the other side has an utterly binary mindset. There are two sides to each coin. And, yes, Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Although I would prefer the same old same old corniced brownstone, the photo you posted shows a house that someone took some time with: it has its own integrity and specific aesthetic, as opposed to the cheap looking, out-of-the-box BB house. I kind of like it the more I look at it...

The best people, JCMan? Like Sarah Palin? Like Steve Bannon? Like Rudy Giuliani? Jeff Sessions?Myron Ebell, a knuckledragger who would head up the EPA but who believes climate change is not real???? Holy Mother of God, if those are "the best people", I am curious to know who the worst people would be.

...and you should also read the letters from commentators. Both of them (the article and the letters) are interesting. Always good to have both perspectives.

Square One

On Saturday I went to a beautiful new cafe over by Journal Square called, "Square One" (283 St. Paul's Ave) I just had time for a quick bite, and the winter squash soup was amazingly good. I hope to go back soon. I think they're only open for breakfast and lunch. Has anyone else been there yet? Seems promising.

Go hang out at the bar at Fox and Crow...and, on Friday and Saturday nights, in the back room of same (The Parlour). High quality, no cover charge, good drinks and food. Go!

I also take them a lot and (so far, fingers crossed) have never had a safety problem with them. My trick with them is to observe how fast or erratic the driver seems coming up the block before I get on!

I have some very small, flat, low-fire (cone 06) pieces that I would like to bisque fire. Does anyone have a kiln or know someone who does who would fire them (for cheap)? Thanks!

Stupid neighbor who hates trees
#23
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

My next door neighbors told me that the other day a truck rolled up and dug a small hole in the sidewalk down the street from us (in the heights), and then another truck rolled up with a small tree to plant in the hole. Before they knew it, the guy whose house the tree was going to be planted in front of came running out to the street, yelling obscenities to the tree planters, saying he didn't want the tree, that they should cover up the hole and leave. He was joined by his wife and another neighbor, and a huge, threatening yelling match erupted, ending with the tree people leaving. My question is: how to get the mysterious tree planting people back to resume their job (I wasn't there to witness this whole thing but I assume it was the city that plants trees) AND how to override these vile miscreants who for some reason are against trees. Who should I call?
