Yeah the Vatican did adopt the new Italian age of consent so 12 is wrong, it's 14 now which is OBVIOUSLY SO MUCH BETTER.

and what's with adding the time to the headline? Would it have made it difference if he was stabbed at 6.34pm? Would the level of FEAR be raised?

We all have to be home tucked up in bed by 9.44 or THE BOOGEYMAN WILL GET YOU!

Hell, if only it was that eventful. I just travelled from JSQ to Lincoln Park and had to step over ZERO dead bodies on the way home. In fact I saw ZERO cops too, other than the one giving tickets to cab drivers at the PATH station. So Tom, please shut the eff up thanks....

But bum pee keeps you warm. Have you never seen the steam coming up through the streets of NYC? That's the rivers of bum pee that flow under the street. The lovely updraft of steam provides warmth to many in the winter.

Oh, and Marylin Monroe standing over the grate trying to hold down her skirt, that was bum pee too.

To a bum it's just pee, to me the seea of pee that flows below the citee is one pee that should bee mandatoree........

c) I think it's critical that NJT and Jersey City improve the routes connecting the Lincoln Park/Kennedy Boulevard area with downtown Jersey City. It seems as if real estate prices are very low in Lincoln Park, even when compared with the Jersey City Heights, simply because it's a pain in the neck to get between there and the waterfront, and really, really awful to try to get between there and Hoboken.

I ride the bus from Lincoln Park to JSQ and to downtown all the time, if anything Westside Avenue is fairly well served when it buses (certainly when compared to JFK and Bergen Ave). There is the #80 and the #1 both of which run to Exchange Place via JSQ, and a number of Red&Tans buses that run between Society Hill>JSQ, 440 Shopper>JSQ, Westside>Newport Mall, Westside>Montgomery St (which ends at Grove St PATH plaza).

Also, if they were going to provude a connection to the lightrail, why wouldn't they connect to the West Side Avenue stop? Some of the buses already do this.

Anyway, not to get off topic. There are a good amount of buses on Westside Ave however the schedules are messed up and often 3 buses arrive at once and then nothing for 30 minutes. Also there are almost NO bus shelters. Shelters are definitely needed at the corner of Westside Ave and Fairmount and at Bergen Ave and Montgomery which are both heavily used stops.

I live a couple of blocks away from the Duncan projects and had no idea this had happened until I read it here. What goes on in the Duncan projects tends to stay in the Duncan projects (unfortunately for the people who have to live there) and does not really affect the rest of the Lincoln Park neighborhood as a whole.

That being said though, the new mixed income housing they are building there looks nice and I hope it will make it a much easier area to police and much safer for the residents of A.Harry Moore as a whole. 4 towers down, 3 to go.

You compare JC to Hiroshima?

I suppose by that measure Bayonne is Dresden?

By this logic, Bayonne would be Nagasaki.

Looks like you need to go back to the history books, young son.

Another city, another massive amount of civilian casualties. Hence it would just as offensive to compare Bayonne with Dresden. Seems to me that Bdlaw has a pretty good grasp on a historical analogy. However, I suspect you wouldn't care History professor Devbeep.

VIOLENT WEEKEND
3 slain in Jersey City say shootings unrelated

Monday, April 21, 2008
By CHARLES HACK
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Three people were killed in apparently unrelated shootings around Jersey City this weekend, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward De Fazio said.

Ramon Francisco Morales, 21, of Glenwood Avenue, died after being shot Saturday during an armed robbery at the northeast corner of West Side and Highland avenues at 10:40 p.m., authorities said. A man was arrested in connection to that slaying.

About two hours later, Kwaun Martin, 24, of Claremont Avenue, was killed and two other people were injured in a shooting on Orient Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Also this weekend, Damien Williams, 28, address unknown, died after being shot once in the chest near the corner of Grant and Rose avenues on Saturday about 1 a.m., reports said.

Authorities have already made an arrest in one of the slayings: Quaheem Johnson, 21, of Duncan Avenue, will be charged in connection to the Morales shooting, De Fazio said.

Highland and Westside is the only one in Lincoln Park area and it's nearer to the Holy Name cemetary than the park.

There are some really great old houses in that area but unfortunately that's not a great block safety-wise which is why I assume the stores are closed early. Belmont is a kick ass street but try looking closer to Kennedy or Westside and not Monticello.

I would also say that it is Bergen-Lafayette, definitely a bit far from JSQ to be considered in that hood.

We have the lead test pencils for toys, etc., but how do you test your water?

I think if someone here who knows environmental testing would come up with some kind of $200 "home environmental check" and promote it here with a banner ad, you'd get a lot of business.

I wish I could get my apartment tested, but I have no idea who to call or what the testing should cost. When I look under this heading in the telephone directory, it looks as if the companies are all offering some kind of elaborate service aimed at developers, or possibly home buyers, and not a simple service aimed at parents who just want to know what's going into their kids.

I wouldn't drink any unfiltered water in this town period, but you should still test the water if you live in an old house because taking a shower or washing your face can be bad for the kids too. Yoiu can buy water test kits where you take a sample and then send it off to a lab. here's one:

Lead in water test

At the very least, locate where your water comes into your house/building and look to see if the pipes are copper. If they are not copper then you might have a problem....

That being said, it's not for everybody and you definitely have to trust your instincts... especially in a mad house like NYC.

+1

I've spent months on the road hitch-hiking around different countries in Europe and it is a great way to meet peope. Unfortunately due to the paranoia of people like the first few who replied to this post, it's a dying art form.

As for hitching through the tunnel, well I'd say you'll get more trouble from the cops than the drivers and also if you work regular daytime hours, you'd be sitting in traffic for the same amount of time that it'll take you to walk to the PATH.
