Re: UBER - car service in Jersey City

No tip necessary.

Used UberX to and from Hoboken (from DTJC) on Sat Night, $6 each way--that's all-in including tip. Just this alone is amazing. Add in the fact that you can use the app to see estimated times, it's so easy to "order" a car, the cars are very clean, drivers are great, promo codes galore, etc.

Unfortunately the cab industry did this to themselves with their less than par cars and attitudes, selective service (it took me 4-5 times asking on a Sat night in Hoboken to get a driver to accept a ride to JC, NYC is worse), and they would hike the price up illegally during peak times ($12-$13 from Hobo to DTJC).

I don't think I will ever use a cab in my life again!

Wow, a potential future weekend closure of the 33rd street line? As soon as this fight is done, let's get right on that. Although I have some doubts of that actually happening simply because Hoboken would have absolutely no path service at all. Interesting to see how it plays out, I really hope they are able to come to a solution that includes both ferry service and separate 33rd/Hoboken lines.

On that note, the article mentions a lot about the ferry but what was PATH's response to dedicated weekend lines (not going through HOB)?

Certainly Counsel should be able to come to an informed opinion. It's certainly dicey especially for those unit owners who believe they own a space. As much as "grandfathering" might sound fine, you are talking about a massive amount of money (esp if you are downtown) that you could be getting for these spaces and using as association income for other things in the building. It's not uncommon for parking spaces to go well above 20-30k per space in dtjc, so you can do the math!

Agree with below. Usually in Master Deed, there should be a floor plan for every single unit and unless that floor plan indicates a parking space tied with a unit, I would think that the parking is all common. Otherwise I would ask the owners who claim they have parking to prove in their closing docs somewhere it indicated the space is included.

Agree with user. It's off-base to say the arrests are meaningless. Even if they are in jail for 10 mins, it costs the suspects time and money (bail, court, processing, fine)....the point here is to deter future behavior.

Besides, you cannot claim it is better to do absolutely nothing...

Can anyone confirm the 9am registration and 11am start? Why so much time between them, I don't recall registration taking long at all last year.

If it starts at 11am, what is a more realistic time to show up? 10?

Anyone have trouble with the website? I registered and it said it went through, however gave me an error message about not being able to send an email.

Then when I filled out a contact form to notify, it gave the same error...unable to send an email from website.

Anyway, I agree- this is a great event.

For me, it's 1 BR condo I am looking for. I can only speak to those, but I have heard 2 BR's are same situation. Yes, consider putting it on, although prices still may rise the fact that there is no inventory currently is a reason to put it on. Even if prices rise in the Spring/Summer, you will still probably be competing with more inventory. Now seems to be the time.

DT Jersey City Real Estate Market?!

What's going on currently with the Downtown JC real estate market?!? I have been looking to buy quite some time now and it seems the inventory has dried up....things are actually going into bidding wars as opposed to under asking.

My realtor says she has not seen it like this in years. Things are getting offers within 1 day of being on market. I know the post a few weeks back about the Australian investors, but that can't be it, can it? At least not in condo high rises I would think.

I found them to be unresponsive as well (finding rental units, not mgmt co). I am surprised with all the competition in real estate they can afford to provide bad service.

I absolutely agree with everything. I think the pictures are ridiculous. And I agree with the poster who mentioned the site when President Obama called. It said ***BREAKING NEWS*** president calls mayor Healy...etc etc. That's not breaking news. It should have been used for more valuable information. If anyone from his team is reading, you may want to retool the website and put the content first, opportunistic pictures second.

I was in the line at Exchange at 7am....ferry to midtown did not leave until 7:25. Line was somewhat long, but everyone got on. Line was also somewhat long at Newport, but again everyone got on. Those things with standing room fit a lot of people.

I imagine as the week goes on, the lines will get longer as more and more ppl return to work. Also I found it interesting that if you did not have a ticket they let you on and said they would collect on board. Never ended up collecting. I am sure they are still working out the kinks....

Anyone have any suggestions on the best place to get alterations/tailoring on a men's suit? I saw this place DeCarlos on Monmouth St and it got good reviews online. Anyone ever been or knows somewhere else?

I also completely agree Honshu is the best in JC. And the best part...it's BYOB.

Update: I am hearing the developer has decided to change this building into rental units due to not being able to sell the number of units they needed to.

Another thing to look at is the lawsuit/litigation they are under. I don't know the full details, but I was told some banks won't lend since the condo assoc. was under litigation. This may be over now, but I know it cause a lot of people to put their units for sale a while back. Maybe someone who lives in the building can clarify.

On the flip side, one of the best values for what you get in JC.

It's the building on Christopher Columbus across from path. Next to the the hard grove cafe and that new 24 hr place (I forget the name).

I am gOing to take a look at them next week and while I can't speak to the building/noise/etc, I can't help to think that the value will skyrocket as more and more people migrate from lower manhattan and want a place literally right next to the path. As one of the posters said above, WTC is only s few mins away.

Anyone know about this place - 109 Christopher Columbus. It is directly accross from the PATH. They are still in the process of building and some units have already been reserved. Looks like it can have the potential to be a great building, especially given it's location.

Does anyone live/know anything about the Liberty View condos (126 Dudley)? There are a few listings for sale and there is no information on this forum and limited information around the internet in regards to reviews, etc.

Seems like a great building, but wanted to know if anyone knew more information on the community, condo fees, complaints, etc.

Try Harborside.....link below. Nice place, but it will be expensive and I don't believe you can just rent out space without them providing catering.

Car break-in 3rd and Jersey
#21

Just wanted to report a car break in on 3rd in front of Key Foods on Saturday night. One of my friends passanger windows was smashed and gps and iPod stolen. Weird thing is nothing was out in the open. Was a Nissan SUV.

Since nothing was out in the open, I have to presume it was random. Given that, I was wondering if anyone else knows of anything around that area lately. Trying to see if it was a one off or if there has been a string of break ins.

Cops were called, not really helpful. The only glimmer of hope in catching the person was since it was in front of key foods, cameras may have caught it. JCPD will be doing a follow up with Key Foods this week to obtain footage.....although I won't hold my breath.
