Hey BOlew,

It's a hybrid - and i'm only saying this because there's some jello in it - i don't remember jello in Halo-Halo in the Filipino places.

Congratulations - you found the best place to eat Downtown.

Try the Halo-Halo for dessert, it's a great finish for a summer dinner.

The convenience store next door also sells good Vietnamese delicacies.

Re: Sawadee Thai Restaurant

Home away from home

I've practically lived in Bangkok in the early 90's, and if you are referring to Thai Street Food - you're better off going to Sri Thai in Hoboken. That's real Thai Street food. This is more of an "updated" or modern (read: Luxury Hotel Restaurant) type food.

I tired this place last night because it seems to get fairly good reviews. It was awful, I would have been better off getting take out Chinese.
I ordered fried red snapper and a side of mixed vegetables. I ordered both SPICY. First off let me say I have been to Thailand and I work for a Thai company. This food was NOT Thai.
The fish was not even fried! It was simply defrosted and covered in a slimy bland sauce and not even a tiny spicy. The veggies were the typical side of steamed veggies covered in the same slimy oily goo. Take out Chinese style. Again NO SPICE.

When I told the waitress this was not Thai food, she said "Not everything on the menu was Thai, but the basil chicken was" What!!! It is a Thai restaurant!

Both the dishes had not even a hint of fried chilies, cilantro, garlic, lemon grass or tamarind. This is crap and I can't believe that just because they have cloth table clothes people eat here. I am so mad!!

Thai food is super crisp clean and refreshing, with a mix of lime, green apples, cilantro and chilies. Do not let them fool you.

Rocket launcher 'harmless,' feds say
by Ted ShermanFriday July 20, 2007, 1:56 PM

An empty military rocket launcher found on the front lawn of a Jersey City residence today caused a brief scare today, before federal authorities determined the device was inoperable and harmless.

U.S. Army ordinance experts are now trying to track down the serial numbers on the device to determine its origin.

According to the FBI, the launcher was the empty holder for an AT-4 anti-tank weapon - a one-shot rocket-propelled projectile used by the infantry to destroy or disable armored vehicles. The launcher is discarded after use.

FBI spokesman Sean Quinn said the launcher found by a homeowner in front of her house was essentially an empty tube.

"There was no threat," he said.

Yeah, kabayan, it really was delicious. comparable to a good palabok.

I also tried the martini specials - what's the deal with these "new" martinis - they've no kick at all... they supposed to be for the alcohol-challenged?

Does this mean the cops will actually break up a noisy party, say past 12 midnight? I have neighbors who throw parties and the guests get loud/drunk and keep me up past midnight.

Thursday at lunch is the time to go - the Ox Tail is heaven.

Yeah - agree that this is not fast food, it's got a rhythym of it's own, you just gotta relax.

The staff is always great, even if the food sometimes seems a tad slow.

cycling is definitely not the same as walking - the experience is more like riding in your car. having drive up/down Communipaw in the last 19 years i've lived in JC, more often than not, there's quite a few shady characters (not including the cops), on that street, within spitting distance of the police station near the KFC.

if you include driving from downtown Paulus Hook via Grand, there's the skanky street walkers in/around the corner of Grand/Communipaw

that area is a bit scary even during the daytime (but then again, i'm chicken). you may find yourself just using the apartment to sleep, and not really getting to know the neighborhood. plus the walk to the PATH looks pretty far - are you going to drive in/out of JC?

The soccer field in Sinatra park in Hoboken looks like it's open to the public. I see some organized games every now and then but I think we can probably play in there.

Anyone know if there's a schedule somewhere?

I heard Epps speak at the McNair graduation last Tuesday - How'd this effing guy become school superintendent? He can barely speak English. Plus his facts are all wrong - stated that McNair Academic is Number one in the country. This guy smoking or what?

Finally made it last night with the family - found parking on Grove, too.

Here's the review:

Appetizers:
- Calamar tough, not so good
- Roti - delicious you gotta have this, but no chicken pieces
- some sort of puff pastry, forgot the name, Excellent

Main:
- Crispy Duck with spicy sauce - Excellent
- Filet of flounder with mango sauce ( I think - had too much wine) - Excellent
- Pad Thai - Excellent

2 orders of Green Tea Ice cream, 1 of Mango

One bottle of Smoking Loon Cabernet, 4 thai iced teas

$135 including tip, great value.

You don't need Dave's Sporting Goods, just look in your basement/closet/kitchen:

- The Snow Shovel
- your car steering wheel Club
- meat cleaver
- Air Freshener + cigarette lighter
- various gardening tools

There's another area next to the other, larger playground a little bit north on Freedom Way, but I believe you must use the grills provided, (I state this only because I have never seen anyone use their own.)

Hmmm. So the judge takes away his two personal weapons, but allow him to purchase firearms "for his business" and keep possession of a number of them in the store. I'm not saying he shouldn't be allowed to make a living, but shouldn't firearms shopowners be held to a higher standard?

Just what we dont't need here (or anywhere for that matter) a Racist Psycopath that has access to all kinds of automatic firearms.

I thought there was something that looked like a deck hanging over the Liight Rail side - It looks like it's gone?

I kinda thought how weird it would be to get drunk and fall over that "deck" and get electrocuted on the wires.

Did you see the bit about the "terrorists" being reported by a store video transfer clerk who was asked to transfer a terrorism training VHS tape to DVD?

I have to think that serious terrorists would have the technical skills (and equipment) to transfer videotape training videos to DVD. But maybe the problem is that terrorists' basic skills just aren't what they used to be . . .

The original World Trade Center bombers were caught because the guy wanted his $400 depost back on the rental truck.

I guess it's a good thing these guys weren 't smart from the beginning, otherwise there'd be more carnage. Would like to see more of these knuckleheads blowup/shoot themselves.
